The 2018 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup was the twelfth season of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. The season, for the sixth year contested by the riders on equal KTM 250cc 4-stroke Moto3 bikes, was held over 12 races in seven meetings on the Grand Prix motorcycle racing calendar, beginning at Jerez on 5 May and ending on 23 September at MotorLand Aragón. Turkish rider Can Öncü won the championship, securing the title after the Misano race. The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is a motorcycle racing series contested by young, up-and-coming motorcycle riders, who have not had experience in a motorcycle grand prix previously. The class was founded in 2007, and since then a number of the rookies have progressed through to the 125cc/Moto3 championship in MotoGP. Prior to the 2013 season, a 2-stroke KTM RC 125cc engine was used. The year 2013 saw a change of machinery to the 4-stroke KTM RC250RBR, following the introduction of the four-stroke Moto3 class. The Spaniard José Antonio Rueda was the first racer to win the Cup title and his first World Championship title in the same year (2022). TT Circuit Assen
The TT Circuit Assen is a motorsport race track built in 1955 and located in Assen, Netherlands. Jason Dupasquier
Jason Dupasquier (; 7 September 2001 – 30 May 2021) was a Swiss motorcycle rider who competed in the Moto3 class in the motorcycle world championship until his death after a crash during qualifying at the 2021 Italian motorcycle Grand Prix. He was the son of Motocross rider Philippe Dupasquier. Career Dupasquier began his racing career in 2011; he won multiple SuperMoto Swiss championships and switched to circuit racing in 2016. He was set to debut in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2018, but suffered a femur injury that prevented him from doing so. Dupasquier debuted in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2019 and was soon awarded a two-year contract as a Moto3 rider, making his Moto3 debut in 2020. Sean Dylan Kelly (born May 17, 2002) is an American motorcycle racer, competing for the American Racing team in the 2022 Moto2 World Championship. He previously competed in the AMA Supersport Championship with the M4 Ecstar Suzuki team, having won the championship in 2021. Career In 2019, Kelly made his AMA Supersport debut aboard the Suzuki GSX-R600 of M4 Ecstar Suzuki. In his first season of the championship, he recorded two victories, both at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex and five podiums, which allowed him to finish the season in fourth place. Kelly continued on the M4 Ecstar Suzuki in 2020 and that season, he showed his high level. He had won five races (one at Atlanta, The Ridge, New Jersey and two at Laguna Seca), eleven podiums and three poles in 18 races. Gerry Salim Laurens (born in Surabaya, 19 April 1997), is a motorcycle racer from Indonesia. Racing Career Gerry started his career in the mid-2000s. In 2011, he won the Motoprix National Championship in the MP6 class. The following year saw him won the Honda One Make Race series in both underbone 110cc and 125cc classes. With him rising through the ranks, Astra Honda Racing Team recruited him to be a part of their rider development program. Filip Salač (born 12 December 2001) is a Czech motorcycle rider, competing in the 2023 Moto2 World Championship for QJmotor Gresini Moto2. Career Junior career Salač competed full time in the 2016 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, scoring no podiums, 75 points, and finished 9th in the final standings. Barry Baltus (born 3 May 2004) is a Belgian Grand Prix motorcycle racer. Career Moto3 World Championship Baltus contested the season as a full-time rider in the Moto3 World Championship for CarXpert Prüstel GP, despite missing the opening race of the season due to him being under the age limit. Moto2 World Championship In 2021, Baltus moved to the Moto2 class with NTS RW Racing GP. Xavier Artigas Lopez (born 27 May 2003) is a Spanish motorcycle racer, riding for CF Moto Prüstel in the Moto3 World Championship. Career Early career 2018 Artigas bought attention to himself in the 2018 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, where he won a race, came in second place three times, and finished third once. He finished third in the standings, behind Turkish twins Can Öncü and Deniz Öncü. 2019 Artigas moved up to the Moto3 Junior World Championship for the 2019 season, and ended with one race win, one second place, and two third place podium finishes, once again finishing third in the standings. The Red Bull Ring is a motorsport race track in Spielberg, Styria, Austria. The race circuit was founded as Österreichring (translation: Austrian Circuit) and hosted the Austrian Grand Prix for 18 consecutive years, from to .
