2018 Osun State Gubernatorial Election
The Osun State gubernatorial election took place on 22 September 2018. The election was held alone where national and state level elections were to be held by 2019. Two-term incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress was in-eligible to run for re-election. Ademola Adeleke of the People's Democratic Party won the initial election as announced by INEC. but was defeated in a rerun on 27 September by Gboyega Oyetola. Gboyega Oyetola
Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola (born 29 September 1954) is a Nigerian politician who served as Governor of Osun State from 2018 to 2022. He contested for the Osun State gubernatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 2018 gubernatorial election and won controversially. On 23 March 2019, a tribunal declared him to have not been legally returned and ordereINECto issue certificates of return to Senator Adeleke of the PDP, which was contested at the Court of Appeal. Ademola Adeleke
Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke (born 13 May 1960) is a Nigerian politician and businessman, who has served as governor of Osun State since 2022. He was the senator that represented the Osun-west senatorial district from 2017 to 2019. He is from the Adeleke family of Ede in Osun State. He contested in the 2022 Osun State gubernatorial election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and defeated incumbent governor, Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola of the APC who defeated him in the 2018 Osun State gubernatorial election rerun. Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola (born 25 May 1957) is a Nigerian politician who is the current Minister of the Federal Ministry of Interior of Nigeria. Before that, he served as the fourth civilian governor of Osun State. He is a native of Ilesa in Osun State. All Progressives Congress
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Founded on 6 February 2013 from a merger of Nigeria's three largest opposition parties, the party came to power following the victory of party candidate Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election. This marked the first time in Nigerian history that an opposition party unseated a governing party and power was transferred peacefully. Iyiola Ajani Omisore (born 15 September 1957) is a Nigerian businessman, engineer, and politician who served as Deputy Governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003. Subsequently, he served as a member of the Nigerian Senate for Osun East from 2003 to 2011. He is the current National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress. Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu (born 29 March 1952) is a Nigerian accountant and politician who served as the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and Senator for Lagos West during the brief Third Republic.
