2018 Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2018 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Northeast Conference for the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. All tournament games were played at the home arena of the highest seed, on February 28, March 3, and March 6, 2018. The No. 4 seed LIU Brooklyn defeated No. 1 seed Wagner in the championship game to earn the NEC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Seeds The top eight teams in the Northeast Conference were eligible to compete in the conference tournament. Teams were seeded by record within the conference, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. On February 17, 2018, Wagner defeated LIU Brooklyn to win the NEC regular season championship outright, their second regular season championship in the previous three years, and received the No. 1 seed. The 2017–18 LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds men's basketball team represented The Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The 2017–18 Fairleigh Dickinson Knights men's basketball team represented Fairleigh Dickinson University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by fifth-year head coach Greg Herenda. The Knights played their home games at the Rothman Center in Hackensack, New Jersey as members of the Northeast Conference. The Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Northeast Conference (NEC). It has been held every year since the NEC was established in the 1981–82 season. The tournament is an eight-team single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The bracket is reseeded after the quarterfinals, with the highest remaining seed playing the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals. The tournament winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, NCAA basketball tournament. The 2017–2018 Bryant Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Bryant University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Derek Kellogg
Derek William Kellogg (born June 20, 1973) is an American college basketball coach who currently serves as an assistant coach for UMass. Kellogg previously served as head coach of the Minutemen, his alma mater, being named to the position on April 23, 2008, replacing Travis Ford, who left to take the head coaching job at Oklahoma State University. He was removed from the position on March 9, 2017. After being let go by the Minutemen, he was named head coach of the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, which represented the school's Brooklyn campus. He was named the first head coach of the current LIU team upon its formation in July 2019 when LIU merged the Brooklyn athletic program with that of its Post campus, creating a new program that now competes as the LIU Sharks, and served in that role until he was fired and replaced by Rod Strickland on June 30, 2022.
