2018 North Carolina Courage Season
The 2018 North Carolina Courage season is the team's second season as a professional women's soccer team. North Carolina Courage plays in the National Women's Soccer League, the top tier of women's soccer in the United States. On August 5, the Courage clinched the 2018 NWSL Shield for the second consecutive season after a 2–1 win over Portland. The Courage finished the 2018 regular season with only 1 loss and broke the record for most wins in a season (17), most points (57) and most goals (53). On September 22, North Carolina defeated the Portland Thorns 3-0 to win the 2018 NWSL Championship and completed one of the most successful seasons for a professional women's soccer team in the United States. North Carolina Courage
The North Carolina Courage is a professional women's soccer team based in Cary, North Carolina. It was founded on January 9, 2017, after Stephen Malik acquired National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) franchise rights from the Western New York Flash. The Courage is affiliated with the men's team North Carolina FC of the United Soccer League and plays its home games at the Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. In 2018, the Courage became the first team in NWSL history to win the Shield and the Championship in the same season. In 2019, the team became the first team to win the Championship on its home field. National Women's Soccer League
The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is a professional women's soccer league at the top of the United States league system. It is owned by the teams and, until 2020, was under a management contract with the United States Soccer Federation. The NWSL was established in 2012 as the successor to Women's Professional Soccer (WPS; 2007–2012), which was itself the successor to Women's United Soccer Association (2001–2003). Merritt Elizabeth Mathias (born July 2, 1990) is an American soccer forward currently playing for Angel City FC in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She previously played for FC Kansas City and Seattle Reign FC. Early life Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Mathias attended and played for Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham. Débora Cristiane de Oliveira (born 20 October 1991), known as Debinha Miri or simply Debinha, is a Brazilian professional football forward who plays for the Kansas City Current in the National Women's Soccer League and the Brazil women's national football team. Club career When Rosana transferred to Avaldsnes in August 2013, she asked the Norwegian club to sign Debinha too. Debinha became top-scorer of the 2014 Toppserien. Abby May Erceg (born 20 November 1989) is a professional New Zealand footballer who plays as a defender. She is the captain of the North Carolina Courage in the National Women's Soccer League. Sabrina Victoria D'Angelo (born May 11, 1993) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Women's Super League club Arsenal and the Canada national team. Katelyn Morgan Rowland (born March 16, 1994) is an American soccer goalkeeper who currently plays for the North Carolina Courage in the National Women's Soccer League. Scott Vallow
Scott Vallow (born June 8, 1977 in Modesto, California) is a retired American soccer goalkeeper, most famously for playing with the Rochester Rhinos, 2005-2010. Scott was the assistant coach of the North Carolina Courage soccer team, having followed head coach Paul Riley from the Portland Thorns FC to Western New York Flash and the Courage.
