2018 New York Liberty Season
The 2018 WNBA season is the 22nd season for the New York Liberty franchise of the WNBA. The season tips off on May 20. During the off-season the Liberty hired Katie Smith as head coach. Smith replaced Bill Laimbeer, who left to coach the Las Vegas Aces. It was also announced in the offseason that the team would play its home games at the Westchester County Center. The 2018 season ended up being a difficult one for the Liberty. After having achieved a 22-win season in 2017, the team could only muster 7 wins in 2018. The team started 1–2 in May, but quickly fell behind the playoff pace going 3–9 in June. Things did not improve in July when the team went 3–7. The team finished the season on a thirteen-game losing streak, including an 0–9 August to finish the season 7–27. This was the franchise's worst record in its history. Katie Smith
Katie Smith (born June 4, 1974) is lead assistant coach for the Minnesota Lynx of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She is the former head coach of the New York Liberty. A retired professional basketball player, Smith's primary position was shooting guard, although she sometimes played small forward or point guard. She was the all-time leading scorer in women's professional basketball, having achieved over 7000 points in both her ABL and WNBA career. In 2016, she was voted one of the WNBA Top 20@20. On March 31, 2018, Smith was named to the 2018 class of inductees for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Kia Vaughn (born January 24, 1987) is an American-born Czech professional basketball player for the Atlanta Dream of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She attended high school at St. Michael's All Girls High School in New York, and later went on to star at Rutgers University. 2018 Minnesota Lynx Season
The 2018 WNBA season of the Minnesota Lynx was their 20th season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Lynx finished the 2017 season with a record of 27–7, finishing first in the Western Conference (and the league as a whole) and qualifying for the playoffs, before ultimately beating Los Angeles in the WNBA Finals to win their league-tying best fourth championship. The Lynx returned to the home arena, Target Center, for the 2018 season, following a year playing at the Xcel Energy Center and Williams Arena due to renovations. Wintrust Arena at McCormick Square, previously referred to as DePaul Arena or McCormick Place Events Center, is a 10,387-seat sports venue in the Near South Side community area of Chicago that opened in 2017. It is the current home court for the men's and women's basketball teams of DePaul University and serves as an events center for McCormick Place. It also is the home of the Chicago Sky of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The arena was announced in May 2013, with construction planned to begin in 2014, and use expected to begin with the 2016–17 season. The start of construction was delayed to November 2015, with completion delayed until the 2017–18 season. Amanda Zahui Bazoukou (born September 8, 1993), known professionally as Amanda Zahui B., is a Swedish basketball player for the Washington Mystics of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). 2018 Chicago Sky Season
The 2018 Chicago Sky season is the franchise's 13th season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The regular season tipped off on May 6, and concludes on August 19. The Sky started the season off with wins over Indiana and New York and finished 2–2 in May. However, the team couldn't keep the momentum and lost 7 of their next 8 games. The Sky ended June on a 3 game win streak with a 4–7 overall record. The winning streak didn't last long, as the team went 4–8 in July. All 4 July wins came against eventual playoff teams, but the Sky also had 4 losses against teams that would not end up in the playoffs. The 2018 WNBA season was the 22nd season for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association. The season tipped off on May 20th. The Sparks started out strong with a 4–1 record in May. They won their season opener in a re-match of the 2017 WNBA Finals against the 2018 Minnesota Lynx season, Minnesota Lynx. They continued their strong run into June where the team posted an 8–4 record. The Sparks won 6 of 7 to start the month. Shavonte Zellous (born August 28, 1986) is an American-Croatian professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. She was a standout basketball player at the University of Pittsburgh. 2018 Dallas Wings Season
The 2018 WNBA season will be the 21st season for the Dallas Wings franchise of the Women's National Basketball Association, WNBA. This will be the franchise's 3rd season in Dallas. The season tips off on May 18. Dallas had an up and down start to the season, posting a 2–3 record in May followed by a 5–4 record in June. Herb Williams
Herbert L. Williams (born February 16, 1958) is an American former basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for eighteen seasons from 1981 to 1999. Williams served as the interim head coach and the assistant coach of the NBA's New York Knicks. He was last an assistant coach for the New York Liberty of the WNBA.
