2018 New Year Honours
The 2018 New Year Honours are appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by citizens of those countries. The New Year Honours are awarded as part of the New Year celebrations at the start of January and were officially announced in ''The London Gazette'' on 30 December 2017. Australia, an independent Realm, has a separate honours system and its first honours of the year, the 2018 Australia Day Honours, coincide with Australia Day on 26 January. New Zealand, also an independent Realm, has its own system of honours. The 2018 honours list includes knighthoods for music legends Ringo Starr—which was reported by the press a week before the list was made public—and Barry Gibb. Commonwealth Realm
A Commonwealth realm is a sovereign state in the Commonwealth of Nations whose monarch and head of state is shared among the other realms. Each realm functions as an independent state, equal with the other realms and nations of the Commonwealth. King Charles III succeeded his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, as monarch of each Commonwealth realm following her death on 8 September 2022. Lady Marion Fraser
Lady Marion Anne Fraser (née Forbes; 17 October 1932 – 25 December 2016) was a Scottish music educator. Personal life Fraser was the daughter of Elizabeth Taylor Watt and Robert Forbes. She was attended school in Glasgow at Hutchesons' Girls' Grammar School, going on to the University of Glasgow in 1950, to study for an MA. While a student at the university, she was elected president of the Queen Margaret Union. She then attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she studied piano. In 1956, she married William Kerr Fraser, a former president of the Glasgow University Students' Representative Council and at the time a junior civil servant at the Scottish Office. He went on to become permanent secretary there, and later principal and then Chancellor of the University of Glasgow. The couple had three sons and one daughter. Christchurch is a constituency in Dorset represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 1997 by Sir Christopher Chope of the Conservative Party. History The original Christchurch constituency, a parliamentary borough, existed from 1572 until 1918. The constituency was re-created as a county constituency in 1983 from parts of the seats of Christchurch and Lymington, North Dorset and New Forest. Sir Christopher Robert Chope (born 19 May 1947) is a British barrister and politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Christchurch in Dorset since 1997. Sir Graham Stuart Brady (born 20 May 1967) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Altrincham and Sale West since 1997.
