2018 NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series
The 2018 NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series was the eleventh season of the NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series and the fourteenth season organized by NASCAR Mexico. It began with the Gran Premio Difrenosa at Autódromo Monterrey on 25 March and concluded with the Gran Premio FedEx at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on 2 December. Abraham Calderón entered the season as the defending Drivers' champion. Rubén García Jr. won the championship, nineteen points in front of Irwin Vences. And Fabián Welter was declared the Rookie of the Year. Drivers Schedule On 25 January 2018, NASCAR announced the 2018 schedule. León and Pachuca were dropped from the schedule in favor of El Dorado and a road course race at Aguascalientes. The race in El Marqués was held on the road course instead of the oval. The NASCAR Mexico Series (formerly NASCAR Corona Series and other names) is a NASCAR series in Mexico. It is the most prestigious stock car racing series in the country. Origins (Desafío Corona) The Desafío Corona was established in 2004 by NASCAR Mexico, a joint-venture between NASCAR and Mexican entertainment group OCESA, with the idea of developing stock car racing in Mexico, and fueling a transition from the country's historically Open-wheel car racing fan base to stock car racing. From 2004 to 2006, the Desafío Corona grew considerably in infrastructure, as well as in number of fans, drivers and sponsors. Richards won back-to-back championships in the Panam GP Series (Latin American Formula Renault championship), in 2004 and 2005. Apodaca () is a city and its surrounding municipality that is part of Monterrey Metropolitan area. It lies in the northeastern part of the Monterrey Metropolitan Area. The EcoCentro Expositor Querétaro is an exposition center located in El Marqués, Quéretaro, near Querétaro, Querétaro, Santiago de Querétaro. Autódromo de León in León, Guanajuato is a motorsport venue. The racetrack was opened in 1976. It is long.
