2018 Miami Open – Women's Singles
Sloane Stephens defeated Jeļena Ostapenko in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2018 Miami Open. It was Stephens' sixth career singles title, first Premier Mandatory title, and first title since winning the US Open back in September. By virtue of her victory, Stephens also made her debut in the Top 10, at No. 9. Johanna Konta was the defending champion, but lost in the fourth round to Venus Williams. Sloane Stephens (born March 20, 1993) is an American professional tennis player. She achieved a career-best ranking of world No. 3 after Wimbledon in 2018. Stephens was the 2017 US Open champion, and has won seven WTA Tour singles titles in total. Born to athletic parents with backgrounds in collegiate swimming and professional American football, Stephens was introduced to tennis at the club across the street from her house in Fresno, California. Her stepfather was a competitive recreational tennis player and was her primary inspiration for beginning to play the sport. Anett Kontaveit (; born 24 December 1995) is an Estonian professional tennis player. She has been ranked as high as world No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), which she first achieved on 6 June 2022, making her the highest-ranked Estonian player in history.
