2018 LFF I Lyga
The 2018 LFF I Lyga was the 29th season of the I Lyga, the second tier association football league of Lithuania. The season began on 25 March 2018 and ended on 20 October 2018. Teams Changes from last season A total of fifteen clubs were confirmed for the season, same as previous season, but only fourteen competed as Šilutė withdrew 4 days prior to the league's start after an uncompetitive performance in the 2018 Žemaitijos Taurė. Three of them were reserve teams of the A Lyga sides - one less than maximum allowed for the competitions and last season number. Utenis were relegated from the 2017 A Lyga and replaced last year champions Palanga. Only the II Lyga South Zone winners NFA were automatically promoted from the lower tier as other eligible teams failed to receive licenses. I Lyga
The I Lyga, LFF I Lyga, Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 14-16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division and the bottom 4 clubs being relegated to the II Lyga. Starting with the 2016 season, the second-placed team qualifies to promotion play-offs with A Lyga's next-to-last team. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. History There were 15 teams competing in the 2017 season. At the end of this season, three teams withdrew from all competitions. In 2018, there were 14 teams that started the championship. 2018 II Lyga
The 2018 II Lyga season was the second season since return to two divisions system, the twentieth after switch to spring-to-fall format and the thirtieth overall after the restoration of Independence. The II Lyga is the third-tier of football in Lithuania. It is divided into the South Zone and the West Zone, each containing a total of thirteen clubs. The 2018 A Lyga was the 29th season of the A Lyga, the top-tier association football league of Lithuania. The season began on 25 February 2018 and ended on 11 November 2018. Sūduva Marijampolė began the season as defending champions having won their first league title last year.
