2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's 60 Metres
The women's 60 metres at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 2 March 2018. Summary Carolle Zahi led the opening heats with her personal best of 7.11. Murielle Ahouré showed her cards in the semi-final round, her 7.01 .06 faster than the top sprinter in the world the last couple of seasons, Elaine Thompson. 7.01 would have been fast enough to win the final. In the final, Ahouré blasted out of the blocks. With short quick, strides she had opened up a metre lead over Zahi, 20 metres into the race. The rest of the contenders formed a line across the track, only Remona Burchell was beaten at this point. The first to run down Zahi was returning silver medalist Dafne Schippers as Zahi faded. Schippers also faded, the battle in the center of the track was between Mujinga Kambundji and Marie-Josée Ta Lou, with Thompson inches behind. Arena Birmingham
Arena Birmingham (known for sponsorship reasons as Utilita Arena Birmingham, and previously as The Barclaycard Arena and originally as the National Indoor Arena) is an indoor arena and sporting venue in central Birmingham, United Kingdom. It is owned by parent company the NEC Group. When it was opened in 1991, it was the largest indoor arena in the UK. The arena was renamed Utilita Arena Birmingham on 15 April 2020. Anna Kiełbasińska (; born 26 June 1990) is a Polish sprinter who competed occasionally also in hurdling events. She won the bronze medal in the 400 metres as well as silver medals in the 4 x 100 m and 4 x 400 m relays at the 2022 European Championships. Kiełbasińska earned bronze for the 400 m at the 2023 European Indoor Championships. She won several major medals as part of Polish 4 x 400 m relay teams and also individual medals at European Under-20 and U23 Championships. Kiełbasińska represented Poland at the Summer Olympics in 2012, 2016 and 2020, and at the World Athletics Championships in 2011, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022. Rosângela Cristina Oliveira Santos (born December 20, 1990) is an American-born Brazilian track and field sprint athlete. Career Santos represented Brazil at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She competed at the 4x100 metres relay together with Lucimar de Moura, Thaissa Presti and Rosemar Coelho Neto. Ajla Del Ponte (born 15 July 1996) is a Swiss sprinter. She competed in the women's 4 × 100 metres relay event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and at the 2017 World Championships in London. Bianca Williams (born 18 December 1993) is a British athlete. She competed for England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where she won bronze medals in the 200 m, and in the 4 × 100 m relay. Crystal Emmanuel (born November 27, 1991) is a Canadian sprinter who specialises in the 200 metres. She is the Canadian champion in both the 100m and 200m as of July 2018. Crystal also holds the 200m record for Canada, having broken a record that stood for 34 years. She competed in this event at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics, but was eliminated in the semi-finals.
