2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's 3000 Metres
The women's 3000 metres at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 1 March 2018. Summary In the first running event at these championships, world record holder Genzebe Dibaba was back to defend her title, while none of the women she vanquished returned, though Laura Muir, Sifan Hassan and Meraf Bahta had beaten Dibaba in her outdoor 1500 meltdown from the previous year. The race took off at a leisurely pace, with Muir taking the pack through a 1:15.31 first lap, marked by 5000 world champion Hellen Obiri. Hassan and Dibaba chose to lead from behind, taking the back of the pack. The next 400 was even slower, 1:20.45. With that, Konstanze Klosterhalfen tired of the slow pace and took the lead. Arena Birmingham
Arena Birmingham (known for sponsorship reasons as Utilita Arena Birmingham, and previously as The Barclaycard Arena and originally as the National Indoor Arena) is an indoor arena and sporting venue in central Birmingham, United Kingdom. It is owned by parent company the NEC Group. When it was opened in 1991, it was the largest indoor arena in the UK. The arena was renamed Utilita Arena Birmingham on 15 April 2020. The arena is located alongside the Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line's Old Turn Junction and opposite the National Sea Life Centre in Brindleyplace. Konstanze Klosterhalfen
Konstanze "Koko" Klosterhalfen (born 18 February 1997) is a German middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2019 World Championship bronze medallist and 2022 European champion in the 5000 metres, becoming the first German winner of the event at the European Athletics Championships. At the European Indoor Championships, Klosterhalfen won silver medals for the 1500 metres in 2017 and the 3000 metres in 2019 and 2023. She took four individual medals at the European Cross Country Championships. In February 2020, she set a European indoor record in the 5000 m with 14:30.79, the fourth fastest time ever. In 2017, Klosterhalfen became the youngest female athlete to run 800 m under 2 minutes, 1500 m under 4 minutes and 5000 m under 15 minutes. Geneviève Lalonde
Geneviève Lalonde (born September 5, 1991) is a Canadian middle- and long-distance runner competing primarily in the 3000 metres steeplechase. Her biggest success to date is winning the gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games. Lalonde won the bronze medal as a competitor for New Brunswick at the 2013 Jeux de la Francophonie in Nice, France. She also won the gold medal for New Brunswick at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec in the 2,000 m steeplechase. Lalonde holds the Canadian record in the 3,000 m steeplechase. Eilish McColgan (born 25 November 1990) is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000 metres champion with the Games record, and 5000 metres silver medallist. McColgan is a four-time European Championships medallist, winning silver medals for the 5000 m in 2018 and 10,000 m in 2022, bronze in the 5000 m in 2022, and a bronze for the indoor 3000 metres in 2017. She is the European record holder for the 10 km road race, and the British record holder for the 5000 m, 10,000 m, 5 km and half marathon.
