2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's 400 Metres
The men's 400 metres at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 2 and 3 March 2018. Summary For the first time ever in a World Championship, every runner in a single preliminary heat was disqualified. It was the third heat, where first returning silver medalist Abdalelah Haroun false started himself out of the heat. #5 runner of all time Bralon Taplin won the heat, but he and the other three remaining runners Austris Karpinskis, Alonzo Russell and Steven Gayle were then disqualified for lane violations. 2012 Champion Nery Brenes also found himself disqualified after winning the fifth heat. With two place qualifiers missing, it opened the door for Juander Santos and Mikhail Litvin to take the extra time qualification positions in the semi-final round. Arena Birmingham (known for sponsorship reasons as Utilita Arena Birmingham, and previously as The Barclaycard Arena and originally as the National Indoor Arena) is an indoor arena and sporting venue in central Birmingham, United Kingdom. Asa Guevara (born 20 December 1995) is a sprinter from Trinidad and Tobago specialising in the 400 metres. He represented his country at the 2018 World Indoor Championships reaching the semifinals. At the 2019 edition of the IAAF World Relays which took place in Yokohoma, Japan, Guevara ran on the third leg as part of the Trinidad and Tobago men's 4x400m relay. The team grabbed gold in what was a world leading time of 3:00:81. After the two- year hiatus from sport due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Guevara finished second at the Trinidad and Tobago NGC National Senior Open Championships 2022 in the 400m in a time of 46.16s and was subsequently selected to run on the men's 4x400m relay squad at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Chidi Anthony Okezie (born August 8, 1993) is a US-born sprinter of Nigerian and Jamaican descent. Okezie is competing internationally for Nigeria. Aldrich Bailey Jr. (born February 6, 1994) is an American sprinter. He graduated from Mansfield Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas in 2012, and was committed to Texas A&M University in 2012. In 2014 Bailey transferred to the University of Texas as a Track and Field Athlete. On April 28, 2012, Bailey broke the U.S. High School Record in the 400 metres, previously held by Calvin Harrison of North Salinas High School, at the Texas Class 5A Region I meet in Lubbock, Texas.
