2018 Hull City Council Election
The 2018 Hull City Council election took place on 3 May 2018 to elect members of Hull City Council in England. This was on the same day as other nationwide local elections. Following a review of Ward boundaries by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) the whole council was up for election as the number of councillors was reduced by two and boundaries of all seats redrawn. The Labour party was defending overall control of the council, which they achieved but with a greatly reduced majority. Hull City Council
(Kingston upon) Hull City Council is the governing body for the unitary authority and city of Kingston upon Hull. It was created in 1972 as the successor to the Corporation of (Kingston upon) Hull, which was also known as Hull Corporation and founded in 1440 by royal charter. Structure From 2002 until 2018 Hull City Council consisted of 59 councillors which are elected from 23 wards, each ward returning either two or three councillors. Following a review, in 2017, by the Local Government Boundary Commission this was reduced to 57 councillors from 21 wards effective from the 2018 elections. 2018 United Kingdom Local Elections
Council elections in England were held on Thursday 3 May 2018. Elections were held in all 32 London boroughs, 34 metropolitan boroughs, 67 district and borough councils and 17 unitary authorities. There were also direct elections for the mayoralties of Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Watford. With the exception of those areas that have had boundary changes, the seats up for election were last contested in the 2014 local elections. The Labour Party is a political party in the United Kingdom that has been described as an alliance of social democrats, democratic socialists and trade unionists. Dehenna Davison
Dehenna Sheridan Davison (; born 27 July 1993) is a British Conservative Party politician and broadcaster serving as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Levelling Up since September 2022. She has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bishop Auckland since the 2019 general election. Born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Davison attended Sheffield High School. She studied British Politics and Legislative Studies at the University of Hull where she was a National Union of Students (NUS) delegate and led a successful campaign to disaffiliate the university's student union from the NUS. She was the Conservative candidate for Kingston upon Hull North and Sedgefield in the 2015 and 2017 general election respectively. Stephen Brady (British Politician)
Stephen Brady (born in Hull in 1945) was the Leader of Hull City Council, a unitary authority, from 2011 for the Labour Party. He stepped down from the position after the 2021 election. In 2018 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) following the success of Hull UK City of Culture 2017. Life and work Stephen Brady, known as Steve Brady, was born in Hull in 1945. His father was a dock worker who served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He is of Irish descent. In his teens he was a member of the Young Christian Workers. Brady spent much of his working life at BP, Saltend, near Hull and later ran a newsagents shop in East Hull. Hull City Council Elections
Kingston upon Hull is a unitary authority in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Until 1 April 1996 it was a non-metropolitan district in Humberside. A third of the Council is elected each year with no election every four years. Since the boundary changes in 2002 until 2018, 59 councillors are elected from 23 wards with each ward electing either 2 or 3 councillors. Following a review, in 2017, by the Local Government Boundary Commission this was reduced to 57 councillors from 21 wards effective from the 2018 elections. Due to boundary changes every ward and every council seat were up for election on 3 May 2018, new wards "East Carr" and "West Carr" replace East Bransholme and West Bransholme and include part of Sutton Park estate too.
