2018 FAI Cup
The 2018 FAI Cup (known as the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup for sponsorship purposes) was the 98th edition of the Republic of Ireland's primary national cup competition. It began with the qualifying round on 21 April 2018, and concluded with the final on 4 November 2018. The winner qualified for the 2019–20 Europa League first qualifying round. Cork City were the defending champions but lost in the final 2–1 to Dundalk. Qualifying round The draw for the qualifying round was made on 4 April 2018. FAI President Tony Fitzgerald was joined by Dundalk goalkeeper and three-time winner Gary Rogers and ''Irish Daily Mail'' Circulation Manager, David Vaz, to perform the draw. Dundalk F
Dundalk ( ; ga, Dún Dealgan ), meaning "the fort of Dealgan", is the county town (the administrative centre) of County Louth, Ireland. The town is on the Castletown River, which flows into Dundalk Bay on the east coast of Ireland. It is halfway between Dublin and Belfast, close to the border with Northern Ireland. It is the eighth largest urban area in Ireland, with a population of 39,004 as of the 2016 census. Crumlin United
Crumlin United Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Crumlin, Dublin. Founded in 1967, the club is one of the biggest producers of football talent in Ireland. They are linked with Nottingham Forest. Their main rival is Cherry Orchard. The club currently has teams in the Dublin District Schoolboys League and Leinster Senior League. The club is managed by Martin Loughran, who is also on the Leinster Senior League committee. FIFA registration case The club successfully initiated a landmark appeal to FIFA in February 2004 in order to receive compensation for the development of Robbie Keane as a schoolboy. Drogheda
Drogheda ( , ; , meaning "bridge at the ford") is an industrial and port town in County Louth on the east coast of Ireland, north of Dublin. It is located on the Dublin–Belfast corridor on the east coast of Ireland, mostly in County Louth but with the south fringes of the town in County Meath, north of Dublin. Head In The Game Park, also known as United Park, and formerly O2 Park and Hunky Dorys Park for sponsorship purposes, is a football stadium in Drogheda, Ireland. The ground has been home to League of Ireland side Drogheda United since 1979. It was officially opened on 12 August 1979 with a friendly against Queens Park Rangers F.C. Shamrock Rovers Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Ruagairí na Seamróige) is an Irish association football club based in Tallaght, South Dublin. The club's senior team competes in the League of Ireland Premier Division and it is the most successful club in the Republic of Ireland. The club has won the League of Ireland title a record 20 times and the FAI Cup a record 25 times. Shamrock Rovers have supplied more players to the Republic of Ireland national football team (64) than any other club. Drogheda United
Drogheda United Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Dhroichead Átha Aontaithe) is a semi-professional Irish association football club based in Drogheda, County Louth playing in the League of Ireland Premier Division. They play their home matches at Head In The Game Park. The current club is the amalgamation of two former clubs in the town: Drogheda United, a non-league club founded in 1919; and Drogheda F.C., founded in 1962. Damien Duff
Damien Anthony Duff (born 2 March 1979) is an Irish professional football manager and former player who played predominantly as a winger. He has been the manager of League of Ireland club Shelbourne F.C. since November 2021. He began his professional playing career with Blackburn Rovers, with whom he won the Football League Cup, and in 2003 was signed for £17 million by Chelsea, where he won two Premier League titles and another League Cup. After three seasons at Stamford Bridge, he left for Newcastle United where he won the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup, and then moved on to Fulham, with whom he played in the 2010 UEFA Europa League Final. He ended his career with brief spells in the A-League with Melbourne City and the League of Ireland with Shamrock Rovers before retiring in December 2015. Curracloe
Curracloe () is a village in County Wexford, a few miles northeast of the town of Wexford, Ireland. It lies on the R742 regional road at the junction with R743, and is linked to the long and sandy Curracloe Strand (beach) by the short R743 road, to the east. Curracloe sees an influx of holiday travellers every summer, who stay in bed & breakfast inns, mobile homes and caravan parks. Beach Ballinesker Beach and Curracloe Strand, Ballinesker, were used for the filming of the D-Day sequence in ''Saving Private Ryan'', due to similarity to Omaha Beach in Normandy. Ballyfermot () is a suburb town nw of the city aside Dublin, Ireland. Kilnamanagh
Kilnamanagh () is a townland and suburban residential area in Tallaght, South Dublin, Ireland. History Kilnamanagh, in Irish 'Cill na Manach', translates to 'church of the monks', referring to the church and castle established to house Saint Kevin and his followers. Present day Kilnamanagh has ties to Glendalough, the other resting place of St Kevin. The ancient Church of St. Kevin, and a castle located in Kilnamanagh, were destroyed when the building of the housing estate commenced in 1974 by the estate's developers. The well that was built by St. Kevin is now covered up, but there is still a small garden around the well. The well and garden have been fenced in for fear of desecration. The gates are locked and access is controlled by the local church.
