The 2018 Eschborn-Frankfurt was a road cycling one-day race that took place on 1 May 2018 in Germany. It was the 57th edition of the Eschborn-Frankfurt and the twentieth event of the 2018 UCI World Tour. European champion Alexander Kristoff won the race for a record fourth consecutive edition. Michael Matthews and Oliver Naesen took second and third place. 2018 UCI World Tour
The 2018 UCI World Tour was a competition that included thirty-seven road cycling events throughout the 2018 men's cycling season. It was the tenth and final edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The competition began with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 16 January and concluded with the final stage of the Tour of Guangxi on 21 October. Belgium's Greg Van Avermaet was the defending champion. Alexander Kristoff (born 5 July 1987) is a Norwegian professional road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He won the Norwegian National Road Race Championships in 2007 and 2011. His biggest victories have been the 2014 Milan–San Remo and the 2015 Tour of Flanders among many other successes. Career Early career At six, he moved from Oslo to Stavanger. His stepfather got him interested in cycling rather than football. He started riding for Stavanger SK. Michael James Matthews (born 26 September 1990) is an Australian professional road and track cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Early career He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder, and in 2010 he became the Under 23 Road Race World Champion. Matthews left at the end of the 2012 season, and joined on an initial two-year contract from the 2013 season. Orica–GreenEDGE (2013–2016) Matthews was selected to ride the 2014 Giro d'Italia. His team won the opening team time trial in Belfast. Oliver Naesen (; born 16 September 1990) is a Belgian professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Considered a specialist of the one-day classics, he won the 2017 Belgian National Road Race Championships, as well as the Bretagne Classic in 2016 and 2018. He is the brother of fellow racing cyclist Lawrence Naesen. The 2017 Eschborn–Frankfurt – Rund um den Finanzplatz was a road cycling one-day race that took place, as customary on Tag der Arbeit (''Labour Day''), 1 May in Germany. It was the 56th edition (55th to be held) of the Eschborn–Frankfurt – Rund um den Finanzplatz and the twentieth event of the 2017 UCI World Tour. It was the race's first appearance on the World Tour calendar. The race was won by 's Alexander Kristoff after a strong lead-out from teammate Rick Zabel; Kristoff finished several lengths ahead of the next closest competitor, taking his third victory at the race, matching the record of Erik Zabel, Rick's father.
