2018 Detroit Tigers Season
The 2018 Detroit Tigers season was the team's 118th season. It was the team's first year under a mostly new coaching staff led by new Manager Ron Gardenhire. It was the fourth consecutive season they missed the playoffs, finishing with the same record as the previous season, 64–98, but good for third place in the American League Central division. It was the last season for television announcers Mario Impemba and Rod Allen, who had been together since 2003. Their contracts were not renewed due to an alleged physical altercation after the game on September 4. Uniform changes Starting this season, the Tigers changed the classic curved Old English D logo on their home uniforms to match that of the sharp cornered hat logo, which is now larger. American League Central
The American League Central is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed in the realignment of 1994 by moving three teams from the American League West and two teams from the American League East. Its teams are all located in the Midwestern United States. Aníbal Alejandro Sánchez Jr. (; born February 27, 1984) is a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 2006 with the Florida Marlins and has also played for the Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals. Andrew James Romine (born December 24, 1985) is an American former professional baseball utility player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, and Chicago Cubs. Dave Clark (baseball)
David Earl Clark (born September 3, 1962) is an American former outfielder in Major League Baseball who played from 1986 to 1998. He most recently served as the first base coach and outfield instructor for the Detroit Tigers. He served as manager of the Houston Astros Double-A affiliate, the Corpus Christi Hooks (2005–2007), and led them to the Texas League Championship in 2006. He also served as the manager of the Houston Astros' Pacific Coast League Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express and served as the manager for the Huntsville Stars, the double-A affiliate for the Milwaukee Brewers. Lloyd McClendon
Lloyd Glenn McClendon (born January 11, 1959) is an American former professional baseball player, coach and manager. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as an outfielder from 1987 to 1994 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers. After his playing career McClendon served as the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2001 to 2005 and the Seattle Mariners from 2014 to 2015. Joe Vavra
Joseph Alan Vavra (born November 16, 1959) is an American professional baseball coach. Vavra previously served as a coach for the Minnesota Twins from 2006 to 2017, and as the Detroit Tigers quality control coach in 2018 and 2019, and hitting coach in 2020. Playing career Vavra graduated in 1978 from Chippewa Falls High School, where he was a captain and MVP baseball player his senior season. He played collegiate baseball for the University of Wisconsin–Stout from 1978 to 1982. He graduated with a degree in industrial technology. Steve Liddle
Steven Michael Liddle (born March 4, 1959 in Nashville, Tennessee) is an American former professional baseball player, coach and manager. Coaching career He was previously the Minnesota Twins' bench coach from 2002–2010 before swapping roles with Scott Ullger and becoming the Twins third base coach for 2011 and 2012. In October 2012, after two 96 plus losing seasons, it was announced Liddle's contract would not be renewed thus ending his stint in Minnesota. Richard Arlen Anderson (born November 29, 1956) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and coach. He most recently served as the pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Amateur career Anderson attended the University of Washington, where he played college baseball for the Huskies in 1978. New York Mets Anderson was drafted in the 24th round of the 1978 Major League Baseball Draft out of the University of Washington by the New York Mets. Phillip Benjamin Clark (born May 6, 1968) is an American former professional baseball outfielder and coach. He most recently served as the assistant hitting coach for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, and Boston Red Sox. He also played four seasons in Japan with the Kintetsu Buffaloes.
