2018 D.C. United Season
The 2018 D.C. United season was D.C. United's 23rd season of existence, and their 23rd in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The 2018 season was the club's first season playing at Audi Field following a 22-year tenure at RFK Memorial Stadium. Prior to the midseason opening of Audi Field, United played four home matches at alternative venues: three at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Maryland (one league match and two cup matches), and one league match at the Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Background Review Off season D.C. United began the off-season trying to figure out how to replace long-time mainstay Bill Hamid, and try to build a much stronger defense in front of his replacement. 2018 Major League Soccer Season
The 2018 Major League Soccer season was the 23rd season of Major League Soccer, top division of soccer in the United States and Canada. The regular season began on March 3, 2018 and concluded on October 28, 2018. The MLS Cup Playoffs began on October 31, 2018 and concluded with MLS Cup 2018 on December 8, 2018. The league took a nine-day hiatus in early June for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, reduced from previous breaks. Los Angeles FC joined the league as an expansion franchise, while D.C. United debuted their new soccer-specific stadium, Audi Field. Toronto FC were the defending Supporters' Shield champions and defending MLS Cup champions. New York Red Bulls won their third Supporters' Shield, with a league record 71 points, while Atlanta United FC won their first MLS Cup in their second year in the league. 2018 MLS SuperDraft
The 2018 MLS SuperDraft was the nineteenth SuperDraft conducted by Major League Soccer. As customary, the SuperDraft was held in conjunction with the annual United Soccer Coaches convention. The 2018 UCS was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania between January 17–21, 2018. Rounds one and two of the SuperDraft were held on January 19, 2018. Rounds three and four of the 2018 SuperDraft were held via a conference call on January 21, 2018. Format The SuperDraft format has remained constant throughout its history and closely resembles that of the NFL Draft: #Any expansion teams receive the first picks. Luciano Federico "Lucho" Acosta (born 31 May 1994) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a attacking midfielder for Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati. Maryland Soccerplex
The Maryland SoccerPlex is a sports complex in Germantown, Maryland, although its mailing address is Boyds, Maryland. The facility, completed in 2000 and operated by the Maryland Soccer Foundation (MSF), has 21 natural grass fields, 3 artificial turf fields, and 8 indoor convertible basketball/volleyball courts. In the park there are also two miniature golf courses, a splash park, a driving range, an archery course, community garden, model boat pond, a bike park featuring a linked jump line and a pump track, tennis center, and a swim center. Planning and funding The Maryland SoccerPlex was completed in 2000 with $15 million raised by a group of Montgomery County, Maryland soccer parents led by Discovery Communications chairman John Hendricks and his wife Maureen (also co-founders of Washington Freedom soccer team) through private donations and government-backed bonds. Yamil Rodrigo Asad (born 27 July 1994) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Universidad Católica. Club career Vélez Sarsfield Asad played youth football and debuted professionally with Vélez Sarsfield under Ricardo Gareca's coaching, entering the field in a 1–2 defeat to Colón in the 2013 Final.
