2018 Curtis Cup
The 40th Curtis Cup Match was played from June 8–10, 2018 at Quaker Ridge Golf Club, Scarsdale, New York. The United States dominated the match, winning by 17 matches to 3 including all 8 of the singles matches. Format The contest was a three-day competition, with three foursomes and three fourball matches on each of the first two days, and eight singles matches on the final day, a total of 20 points. Each of the 20 matches is worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match is all square after the 18th hole, extra holes are not played. Rather, each side earns a point toward their team total. The team that accumulates at least 10 points wins the competition. In the event of a tie, the current holder retains the Cup. Teams Eight players for the USA and Great Britain & Ireland participated in the event plus one non-playing captain for each team. Quaker Ridge Golf Club
Quaker Ridge Golf Club is a private golf club in Scarsdale, New York, that contains the Quaker Ridge Golf Course. Additionally, club grounds encompass numerous tennis courts, a swimming pool, a clubhouse and many other structures along the property. History The club was formed in 1916 by a group of businessmen who had acquired the land a year earlier from a smaller, financially strained club. Renowned golf course designer A. W. Tillinghast was brought in to redesign the seven existing holes and construct 11 new ones. The course was completed in 1918 and the Tudor-styled clubhouse was built in 1923. In 1925, the purchase of additional property prompted the club to recommission Tillinghast to incorporate the new land into the existing course. Leona Maguire
Leona Maguire (born 30 November 1994) is an Irish professional golfer. She was ranked 1st in the world on the women's World Amateur Golf Ranking from May 2015 until May 2016 and then from August 2016 until February 2018. Maguire's 135 weeks at the top is the longest in history. She holds many other records including the lowest ever score in the final round of a major by any golfer, male or female, and the joint lowest round in the history of golf's major grand slam tournament rounds, both male and female, with a score of 61. Olivia Mehaffey (born 1998) is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland. Amateur career Mehaffey enjoyed a very successful amateur career and reached a rank of No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and No. 2 in the European Amateur Golf Rankings. Alice Hewson (born 19 August 1997) is an English professional golfer. She won the 2019 European Ladies Amateur and joined the Ladies European Tour in 2020 to win in her first event, the Investec South African Women's Open.
