2018 Caribbean Series
The 2018 Caribbean Series (Serie del Caribe) was the 60th edition of the international competition featuring the champions of the Cuban National Series, Dominican Professional Baseball League, Mexican Pacific League, Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League, and Venezuelan Professional Baseball League. It took place from February 2 to 8, 2018 at the Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, Mexico. Criollos de Caguas of Puerto Rico won the tournament. The series was originally set to be hosted in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, but due to the socioeconomic crisis at the time it had to be moved to Mexico for a second consecutive year. Stadium The Estadio Panamericano is located in Zapopan, within the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. It is currently home to the Charros de Jalisco of the Mexican Pacific League, who have played there since their entry to the league for the 2014-15 season. Cuban National Series
The Cuban National Series (, SNB) is the primary domestic professional baseball competition in Cuba. Formed after the dissolution of the Cuban League in the wake of the Cuban Revolution, the Series is a part of the Cuban baseball league system. League structure Since 1993, the league has had 16 teams: one representing each province, and one for the city of Havana. Each team is made up of players from the province it represents. In Havana, most of the top tier players take the field for Industriales, traditionally the strongest team in the league. Other typically strong teams include those from Santiago de Cuba, Pinar del Río and Villa Clara. Charros De Jalisco
The Charros de Jalisco ( en, Jalisco Horsemen) are a professional baseball team in the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico, Mexican Pacific League based in Zapopan, Jalisco. Their home ballpark is Estadio de Béisbol Charros de Jalisco y Atletismo, Estadio Panamericano, and has a capacity of 16,500 people. Their initial season was 2014–15. The franchise was originally the Algodoneros de Guasave before it was purchased in April, 2014 by a group of investors led by Armando Navarro, and moved to Jalisco. The Caribbean Series (''Spanish'': ''Serie del Caribe''), also called Caribbean World Series, is the highest tournament for professional baseball teams in Latin America. The tournament location is rotated annually among the countries and is normally played in February after all of the leagues have ended their national tournaments. The Caribes de Anzoátegui ( en, Anzoátegui Caribs) is a baseball team in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League based in Puerto la Cruz, Anzoátegui. Franchise history In January 1987, a local businessmen group based in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela stated their intention to Venezuelan Professional Baseball League to pursue an expansion franchise. Finally on July 15, 1987, the franchise was founded with 21 stockholders and begun a struggle for finding a second expansion team for it was a league requirement. It was not until 1990 that the Venezuelan league awarded the Puerto la Cruz-based franchise, and the Caribes de Oriente debuted in the 1991–92 season.
