2018 Canada Open (badminton)
The 2018 Canada Open (officially known as the Yonex Canada Open 2018 for sponsorship reasons) was a badminton tournament that took place at Canadian Winter Sport Institute in Canada from 19 to 24 June 2018 and had a total purse of $75,000. Tournament The 2018 Canada Open was the third Super 100 tournament of the 2018 BWF World Tour and also part of the Canada Open championships which has been held since 1957. This tournament was organized by the Badminton Canada with the sanction of the BWF. Venue This international tournament was held at Markin-MacPhail Centre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Point distribution Below is the point distribution for each phase of the tournament based on the BWF points system for the BWF Tour Super 100 event. Thomas Rouxel
Thomas Rouxel (born 26 May 1991) is a French badminton player affiliated with Chambly Oise club. In 2016, he won the silver medal at the European Men's Team Championships in Kazan, Russia. Toby Penty
Toby Penty (born 12 August 1992) is a retired English badminton player. He started playing badminton at aged 9, and won U-19 English National Championships in 2011. In 2010, he won junior titles in the Netherlands and Switzerland. In 2017, he won the Swedish International tournament in the men's singles event. Nguyễn Tiến Minh (born February 12, 1983) is a Vietnamese badminton player. His best achievement to date was the bronze medal at the World Championship in 2013. Career Introduced to badminton by his father at the early age of 10, Nguyen Tien Minh was immediately captivated by the sport. The interest soon developed into a passion which led to Tien Minh's crucial decision in 2001 when the athlete was 18 years old: to take on the path of becoming a professional badminton player instead of carrying on his education as his family wished. Lee Dong-keun (Hangul: 이동근; or ; born 20 November 1990) is a Korean badminton player specializing in men's singles. He won his first international senior title at the 2011 Vietnam International tournament. Mark Caljouw (born 25 January 1995) is a Dutch badminton player. He started playing badminton aged eight, at BC Randstad in Rijswijk. Career Caljouw was selected to join the national team in 2008, and made a debut in international senior tournament in 2012. Caljouw competed at the 2013 European Junior Championships in Ankara, Turkey, winning a silver medal in the boys' singles event, and also a bronze medal in the mixed team event. He was selected by Badminton Europe to join the Player Development Plan "Future Stars". Caljouw won the men's singles National Championships title in 2017, beating defending champion Erik Meijs in the semi-finals and first seeded Nick Fransman in the final.
