The 2018 British Indoor Athletics Championships was held on 17 and 18 February 2018 at the Arena Birmingham in Birmingham, England. 3000 Metres
The 3000 metres or 3000-metre run is a track running event, also commonly known as the "3K" or "3K run", where 7.5 laps are run around an outdoor 400 m track, or 15 laps around a 200 m indoor track. It is debated whether the 3000m should be classified as a middle-distance or long-distance event. In elite-level competition, 3000 m pace is more comparable to the pace found in the longer 5000 metres event, rather than mile pace. The world record performance for 3000 m equates to a pace of 58.76 seconds per 400 m, which is closer to the 60.43 seconds for 5000 m than the 55.46 seconds for the mile. However, the 3000 m does require some anaerobic conditioning, and an elite athlete needs to develop a high tolerance to lactic acid, as does the mile runner. Charles Da'Vall Grice (born 7 November 1993), informally known as Charlie Grice, is a British middle distance athlete. Athletics career Grice started out as both a footballer, playing at county level, and an athlete, but balancing them both led to injuries and he decided to solely focus on athletics. He had a breakthrough in 2010, when he broke the English Schools' Athletics Association Championships record in the final of the 1500 metres as well as taking the title. He went on from this to win bronze at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in the 1000 metres, after coming second at the European Trials event in Russia. Jake Wightman (born 11 July 1994) is a British middle-distance runner competing primarily in the 1500 metres. He won the gold medal at the 2022 World Championships, the first global gold in a middle distance event for a British male since Seb Coe's 1500 m title at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. Andrew Osagie (born 19 February 1988 in Harlow, Essex) is an English athlete who specialises in the 800 metres. He represents Harlow Athletic Club at club level and Great Britain at international level. He is the fourth fastest Briton of all time. While attending St Mary's University College he made rapid progress to win his first national titles and international medals. Osagie has performed well indoors, winning bronze medals at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2012 and 2014, as well as ranking second on the British Indoor All-Time list. In the men's 800 metres final at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he finished eighth in a time of 1:43.77. Elliot Giles (born 26 May 1994) is an English middle-distance runner from Birmingham, specialising in the 800 metres. He is best known for winning the bronze at the 2016 European Championships. Career In August 2014, he had a serious motorcycle accident which prevented him from competing for two years. His breakthrough year was 2016 when he became British champion over the distance, and was selected for the senior GB team for the first time at the European Athletics Championships where he won a surprise bronze medal.
