2018 Australian Women In Music Awards
The 2018 Australian Women in Music Awards is the inaugural Australian Women in Music Awards. The event took place on 10 October 2018. Nominations for the awards were open until 12 July 2018 and finalists were announced on 3 September 2018. Queensland Minister for Women, Di Farmer said "Women make up almost half of Australians with a music qualification and half of those studying music – yet only one-fifth of songwriters are women. Women hold only 28 per cent of senior and strategic roles in key industry associations and female artists earn less in general than their male counterparts. I congratulate the Australian Women in Music Awards committee for their work towards encouraging more girls and women in to the music industry." Brisbane Powerhouse
Brisbane Powerhouse is an arts and cultural hub located in a former power station in the Brisbane suburb of New Farm, Queensland, Australia. The venue offers an array of performing arts, visual arts, festivals, and free community events. The first stage of the New Farm Powerhouse was built in 1927–28 as part of the growing need for Powerhouses for the Brisbane Trams. The power station began operations in 1928, was decommissioned in 1971. It was renovated and re-opened as a modern entertainment hub in 2000. Origins Positioned on the northern bank of the Brisbane River, Brisbane Powerhouse was developed from a decommissioned power station. Sophie Payten (born 28 December 1992), known professionally as Gordi, is an Australian folktronica singer/songwriter. Nerida Tyson-Chew
Nerida Tyson-Chew (born 1965) is an Australian music composer, conductor and orchestrator, principally working in screen music. She won her first Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC) Award, in 1996, for her work on ''Hotel Sorrento'' (1995) and ''Brilliant Lies'' (1996). With ''Hotel Sorrento'' she was also nominated for an AFI Award for Best Original Music Score in 1995. Katie Anne Noonan (born 2 May 1977) is an Australian singer-songwriter. In addition to a successful solo career encompassing opera, jazz, pop, rock and dance, she was the singer in the band George and remains the singer in the band Elixir; performs with her mother Maggie Noonan; and plays with her band The Captains. Dallas Frasca is an Australian roots rock band from Melbourne fronted by namesake front-woman, Dallas Frasca. The band's 2015 album, ''Love Army'' peaked at number 29 on the ARIA Charts. Camp Cope are an Australian alternative rock trio formed in 2015 in Melbourne, Victoria. The group consists of lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Georgia "Georgia Maq" McDonald, bassist Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich, and drummer Sarah "Thomo" Thompson. Ngaire Laun Joseph (born 1984, in Lae), known by her stage name Ngaiire (pronounced ''ny-ree'' or /naɪəriː/), is a Papua New Guinea-born Australian-based R&B and future soul singer-songwriter. Her musical career commenced in 2003 with an enrollment in a bachelor of Jazz Studies at the Central Queensland University (CQU). Jen Cloher (born 9 October 1973) is an Australian singer, songwriter, and record producer, currently based in Melbourne, Victoria. Cloher's 2017 self-titled fourth studio album peaked at number 5 on the ARIA Charts.
