2018 Amstel Gold Race
The 2018 Amstel Gold Race was a road cycling one-day race that took place on 15 April 2018 in the Netherlands. It was the 53rd edition of the Amstel Gold Race and the sixteenth event of the 2018 UCI World Tour. The race started in Maastricht and finished in Berg en Terblijt, containing 35 categorised climbs, covering a total distance of . The race was won by Michael Valgren () in a two-up sprint with 's Roman Kreuziger. 's Enrico Gasparotto finished third, two seconds behind the front pair. Route The race started on Maastricht's ''Markt'', the city's central market square, and finished in Berg en Terblijt, totaling . The route, similar to the 2017 edition, was made up of four sinuous loops centering around Valkenburg in the south of Limburg. 2018 UCI World Tour
The 2018 UCI World Tour was a competition that included thirty-seven road cycling events throughout the 2018 men's cycling season. It was the tenth and final edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The competition began with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 16 January and concluded with the final stage of the Tour of Guangxi on 21 October. Belgium's Greg Van Avermaet was the defending champion. Cauberg
The Cauberg is a hill in Valkenburg aan de Geul, a town in the South Limburg region of the Netherlands. The hill played an important role in the early development of tourism in Valkenburg. Today, several major tourist attractions are situated on or nearby Cauberg. The hill's fame is mainly due to the many cycling races and championships that were held here. The length of the climb is around , with a maximum grade of 12%. History The first part of the word Cauberg may be derived from the Celtic word ''kadeir'', meaning 'height' or 'hill'. Jelle Vanendert
Jelle Vanendert (born 19 February 1985) is a Belgian former professional road racing cyclist, who last rode for UCI ProTeam . He competed in a total of ten Grand Tours during his career. His younger brother Dennis Vanendert also competed professionally with the team between 2012 and 2015. Career In 2011, Vanendert showed good form at La Flèche Wallonne, where he came sixth. He rode the Tour de France initially as the main climbing domestique for Jurgen Van den Broeck. However, when his leader crashed out of the race, Vanendert was given a free role, and on Stage 14 attacked from the group of GC contenders to win the stage. Lawson Craddock
Gregory Lawson Craddock (born February 20, 1992) is an American professional road and track racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He is known for his achievement in finishing the 2018 Tour de France despite being seriously injured in the opening stage, and for raising funds for a hurricane-damaged velodrome as a result. Cycling career After spending the 2014 and 2015 seasons with in the UCI World Tour, he moved to rival for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Jakob Diemer Fuglsang (born 22 March 1985) is a Danish professional road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam .
