2018 Afghan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Afghanistan on Saturday 20 October 2018 to elect members of the House of the People.https://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2018-10-19/voting-begins-in-afghan-parliamentary-polls-despite-threats 3,296,643 people voted, 42% of registered voters. They had originally been scheduled for 15 October 2016, but were initially postponed to 7 July 2018, and then again to 20 October. Much of the prelude to the elections focused on the debate over reforming the country's electoral laws. The current system is one of single non-transferable vote. Kandahar's election was held on October 27. Polls were also delayed in Ghazni, due to an intensifying Taliban insurgency in the province, and as of September 2020 still have not been held. The House of Representatives of the People, or Da Afghanistan Wolesi Jirga ( ps, دَ افغانستان ولسي جرګه), was the lower house of the bicameral National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, alongside the upper House of Elders. The House of Representatives of the People was the chamber that bore the greater burden of lawmaking in the country, as with the House of Commons in the Westminster model. It consisted of 250 delegates directly elected by single non-transferable vote. Members were elected by district and served for five years. Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi is an Uzbek legislator and politician from Afghanistan. Biography Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi was born in the Imam Sahib district of northern Kunduz Province in 1962, and is a member of the Ibrahims Clan. He finished his primary education at Basus Middle School in Imam Shabib District and later studied at a madrassa until 12th grade in Takharistan, Kunduz. After completing high school education in 1979, he was admitted to the Languages & Literature Faculty of Kabul University. He joined the Hezb-e Islam mujahedeen group when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. Following the mujahidin's victory, he was appointed as Shir Khan Dry Port director in 1993. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai (born 19 May 1949) is an Afghan politician, academic, and economist who served as the president of Afghanistan from September 2014 until August 2021, when his government was overthrown by the Taliban.
