2018 ALDS
The 2018 American League Division Series were two best-of-five-game series to determine the participating teams of the 2018 American League Championship Series. The three divisional winners, seeded first through third, and a fourth team—the Wild Card Game winner—played in two series. These matchups were: *(1) Boston Red Sox (East Division champions) vs. (4) New York Yankees (Wild Card Game winner): Red Sox win series 3–1. *(2) Houston Astros (West Division champions) vs. (3) Cleveland Indians (Central Division champions): Astros win series 3–0. Under sponsorship agreements with T-Mobile, the series was formally known as the American League Division Series presented by T-Mobile. The Astros and Red Sox won their respective series, to advance to the Championship Series. David Braxton Flemming (born May 31, 1976) is an American sportscaster who has been a play-by-play announcer for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball since 2003. Flemming also calls college football, college basketball, major league baseball, and golf on ESPN. Flemming grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, listening to current Giants partner Jon Miller call Baltimore Orioles games. The 2018 Oakland Athletics season was the 118th season for the Oakland Athletics franchise, all as members of the American League, and their golden jubilee of franchise in Oakland (all at Oakland Coliseum). The A's were managed by Bob Melvin in his eighth year as manager of the A's. They played their home games at Oakland Coliseum as members of Major League Baseball's American League West Division. Tim Timmons (umpire)
Timothy Forbes Timmons (born December 30, 1967) is an American retired Major League Baseball umpire. After debuting in the National League as a substitute in late 1999, Timmons was promoted to the MLB umpiring staff in 2002. He worked the World Series in 2018 and retired following the 2022 season. Early life Tim Timmons was born in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Our Lady of Peace Grade School in 1982 and went onto graduate from Bishop Watterson High School in 1986. Jeff Nelson (umpire)
Jeffrey Brian Nelson (born June 1, 1965) is an American professional baseball umpire in Major League Baseball (MLB), who was named to the National League (NL) staff prior to the 1999 season, and has worked throughout both major leagues since 2000. A graduate of Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, he wears uniform number 45. Nelson was promoted to crew chief starting with the 2014 season. Jerry Layne
Jerry Blake Layne (born September 28, 1958) is an American umpire in Major League Baseball who has worked in the National League between 1989 and 1999, and throughout both major leagues since 2000. He wore uniform number 24 in the NL, but when MLB merged the AL and NL umpiring staffs in 2000, Layne was forced to switch to number 26, as AL umpire Al Clark, who also wore 24, had more seniority. When Clark was fired midway through the 2001 season by MLB, Layne reclaimed number 24 and has worn it ever since. Andrew Jay Fletcher (born November 17, 1966) is an American umpire in Major League Baseball, wearing number 49. Chadwick Jarrett Fairchild (born December 30, 1970) is an American umpire in Major League Baseball. He wore number 75 until the 2014 season, when he changed to number 4 (formerly worn by Tim Tschida). Fieldin Henry Culbreth III (born March 16, 1963) is an American former umpire in Major League Baseball (MLB).
