2017–18 Wigan Athletic F.C. Season
The 2017–18 season was Wigan Athletic's 86th year in existence and their first back in League One, after being relegated the previous season. Along with competing in the league, the club also participated in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. Paul Cook was appointed as manager on 31 May 2017, signing a 3-year deal, following the departure of much of the previous coaching staff the day before. The season covers the period from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018. The season notably saw Wigan knock out Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA Cup. It was the third time Wigan had beaten City in the cup, having previously done son in the 2013 final, and the quarter-finals of the 2013–14 FA Cup. Wigan ( ) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, on the River Douglas. The town is midway between the two cities of Manchester, to the south-east, and Liverpool, to the south-west. Bolton lies to the north-east and Warrington to the south. It is the largest settlement in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan and is its administrative centre. Donervon Joseph Daniels (born 24 November 1993) is a Montserratian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Walsall. Gavin Massey
Gavin Alexander Massey (born 4 October 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward or winger for club Port Vale. Massey is a versatile attacker who can play as a forward or as a winger. Massey was one of the first players to progress through the Watford-affiliated Harefield Academy, where he broke into the first-team in 2010. James Oliver Vaughan (born 14 July 1988) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward. He is currently the Loans Pathway Manager at Everton. Vaughan, who was born in Birmingham, signed his first professional contract with Everton. Jamie Walker (born 25 June 1993) is a Scottish footballer who plays for Bradford City as an attacking midfielder or winger. Max McAuley Power (born 27 July 1993) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Wigan Athletic. He began his career with Tranmere Rovers and then spent time with Wigan Athletic and Sunderland, making more than 100 Football League appearances with each club, before rejoining Wigan in 2021. Samy Sayed Morsy (born 10 September 1991) is a professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for club Ipswich Town, where he is also club captain.
