The 2017–18 Sydney FC season was the club's 13th season since its establishment in 2004. The club participated in the A-League for the 13th time, the FFA Cup for the fourth time, as well as the AFC Champions League for the fourth time. Sydney Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Sydney, New South Wales. It competes in the country's premier men's competition, A-League Men, under licence from Australian Professional Leagues (APL). FFA Cup
The Australia Cup, formerly known as the FFA Cup until the 2021 season, is the national football knockout cup competition in Australia. This annual competition is organised by Football Australia, formerly known as Football Federation Australia until 2020. The Australia Cup comprises teams from the top division, A-League Men (known as simply the A-League before the 2021–22 season), as well as those from lower tiers in the Australian soccer league system. Teams enter in progressive stages, with qualifying rounds culminating with the competition proper, starting with the Round of 32. Each state and territory-based member federation is granted a team allocation for entry into the main competition, joining clubs from A-League Men. Alex Brosque
Alex Jason Brosque (; born 12 October 1983) is an Australian former professional footballer who was the captain of A-League club Sydney FC. He played primarily as a striker but played predominantly as a midfielder in central midfield during his time in Japan. Club career Brosque was born in Sydney, Australia, to Uruguayan parents, who migrated to Australia in the 70s. In 2001 Brosque, aged 18, began his career playing for Marconi Stallions in the now defunct National Soccer League. In three seasons at the club he made over 50 appearances and was considered one of Australia's best prospects having been voted NSL Under-21 Player of the Year for consecutive seasons in 2003 and 2004. Brandon O'Neill (born 12 April 1994) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a defensive midfielder for Newcastle Jets in the A-League. Adrian Mierzejewski (; born 6 November 1986) is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Chinese Super League club Henan Songshan Longmen. Miloš Ninković ( sr-Cyrl, Милош Нинковић; born 25 December 1984) is a Serbian footballer who currently plays for A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers. Michael Zullo (born 11 September 1988) is an Australian professional footballer who last played as a left-back for Sydney FC of the A-League. Jordy Buijs () (born 28 December 1988, in Ridderkerk) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Fagiano Okayama. He can also play as a midfielder.
