2017–18 Stoke City F.C. Season
The 2017–18 Stoke City season was the club's tenth season in the Premier League and the 62nd in the top tier of English football. There were major changes to the Stoke squad in the summer of 2017 with the departures of Marko Arnautović, Phil Bardsley, Joselu, Jonathan Walters, Philipp Wollscheid and Glenn Whelan whilst Giannelli Imbula, Bojan Krkić and Marc Muniesa left on season-long loans. Coming into the team were Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Darren Fletcher, Bruno Martins Indi, Josh Tymon and Kevin Wimmer with Jesé and Kurt Zouma joining on loan. Stoke initially made a good start to the season with a 1–0 win against Arsenal and a 2–2 draw with Manchester United. However their defensive problems returned as heavy defeats against Chelsea (4–0), Manchester City (7–2), Liverpool (3–0), Tottenham Hotspur (5–1) and West Ham United (3–0) saw supporters turn against Mark Hughes. Phil Bardsley
Phillip Anthony Bardsley (born 28 June 1985) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for Stockport County. He has played international football for the Scotland national team. Bardsley began his career with Manchester United where he made 18 appearances in five seasons at the club. During that time, he was loaned to several clubs, including Royal Antwerp, Burnley, Rangers, Aston Villa and Sheffield United. He joined Sunderland in January 2008 for an initial fee of £850,000. Jesé Rodríguez Ruiz (; born 26 February 1993), known as Jesé, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a forward for Süper Lig club Ankaragücü. Kevin Wimmer
Kevin Wimmer (; born 15 November 1992) is an Austrian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Rapid Wien and the Austria national team. Wimmer began his professional career with LASK where his performances earned him a move to German club 1. FC Köln in June 2012. In the 2013–14 season, Wimmer helped Köln set a new 2. Bundesliga record, conceding only 20 goals as they earned promotion to the Bundesliga. Josh Tymon
Joshua Lewis Tymon (born 22 May 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Championship club Stoke City. Tymon began his career with his local club Hull City before joining Stoke City in July 2017 following the Tigers' relegation in 2016–17. He spent time on loan at Milton Keynes Dons in 2017–18. Darren Barr Fletcher (born 1 February 1984) is a Scottish football coach and former professional player who is currently the technical director of Manchester United, where he spent the majority of his playing career. Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (born 23 March 1989) is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for club Bayern Munich. Born in Germany, he plays for the Cameroon national team. Marc Muniesa Martínez (born 27 March 1992) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Al-Arabi. Mainly a central defender, he can also play as a left back. Muniesa began his career with Barcelona, making his debut at the end of the 2008–09 season at the age of 17. Muniesa then played for Barcelona B, helping them to win promotion to the Segunda División in 2009–10. Gilbert Imbula Wanga (born 12 September 1992) is a professional footballer who last played as a defensive midfielder for Portuguese club Portimonense. Born in Belgium, Imbula played youth football for France, before changing international allegiance to the DR Congo national football team. Imbula began his career with French club Guingamp, where he progressed from the youth teams to make his professional debut in October 2009. Glenn Whelan
Glenn David Whelan (born 13 January 1984) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Bristol Rovers. He has represented the Republic of Ireland national football team.
