2017–18 Mercer Bears Women's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Mercer Bears women's basketball team represents Mercer University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Bears, led by eighth-year head coach Susie Gardner, play their home games at the Hawkins Arena as members of the Southern Conference (SoCon). They finished the season 30–3, 14–0 in Southern Conference play win the Southern Conference regular season. They won the SoCon women's tournament for the first time in school history and earns their first automatic trip to the NCAA women's tournament where they lost to Georgia in the first round. Eastman, Georgia
Eastman is a city in Dodge County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,962 at the 2010 census. Named after one of the founders who contributed a site and paid for the county courthouse, the city was established in 1871, and is the county seat of Dodge County. In the 19th century, this was a center of the timber and sawmill industry. During the Great Depression in 1937, the first Stuckey's Pecan Shoppe, once well-known along roadways throughout the United States, was founded in Eastman. Huntsville City Schools is the school district serving Huntsville, Alabama. As of the 2016–17 school year, the system had 24,083 students and employed 1,697 teachers. The district oversees 36 schools: 21 PreK-elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 7 high schools, and 2 magnet schools. The school system finished the 2010 fiscal year with a debt of nearly $20 million the largest of any school system in Alabama by a significant margin. Washington County High School is located in Sandersville, Georgia, United States. It was founded in 1959 from a county-wide consolidation of small community high schools. Because segregation was still active, only white students could attend. A twin school for black students, Thomas Jefferson Elder High School, was built in 1959 on Hines Street in the Tybee neighborhood of Sandersville. The school got its mascot by student vote among Hawks, Falcons, and Eagles.
