2017–18 KBL Season
The 2017–18 KBL season was the 22nd season of the Korean Basketball League (KBL), the highest level of basketball in South Korea. The regular season began play on 14 October 2017 and ended on 13 March 2018, with the play-offs beginning several days after. Seoul SK Knights won its second KBL championship. The 2016–17 KBL season was the 21st season of the Korean Basketball League (KBL), the highest level of basketball in South Korea. Changwon LG Sakers
Changwon LG Sakers are a basketball team located in the city of Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. They play in the Korean Basketball League, and their home arena is Changwon Gymnasium which has a capacity for approximately 6,000 people. The team's main sponsor is LG Electronics which has its offices in Changwon. The professional team was established in 1997 and was named Gyeongnam LG Sakers. The name was changed to the Changwon LG Sakers after the first season. LG Sakers has yet to win a KBL championship. The closest they came was in the 2000–01 season, when they finished as runners-up, losing to Suwon Samsung Thunders in the finals. Points Per Game
Points per game, often abbreviated PPG, is the average number of points scored by a player per game played in a sport, over the course of a series of games, a whole season, or a career. It is calculated by dividing the total number of points by number of games. The terminology is often used in basketball and ice hockey. KBL Defensive Player Of The Year
The Korean Basketball League Defensive Player of the Year Award (Korean: 최우수수비상) is an annual Korean Basketball League (KBL) award given to the best defensive player during the regular season. The awardee is selected from players voted into the Defensive Best 5 (Korean: 수비 5걸) team. In addition to contributing to their team's overall defensive record, selected players must accumulate high averages in the following statistical categories: blocks, steals and defensive rebounds. Song Kyo-chang
Song Kyo-chang (born 3 July 1996) is a South Korean professional basketball player. He currently plays for Jeonju KCC Egis in the Korean Basketball League and the South Korean national team. Early life Song was introduced to basketball in elementary school but preferred baseball as his lack of height was considered a disadvantage. By the time he entered middle school, he had grown much taller than his peers, prompting him to switch back to basketball. He graduated from Samil Commercial High School in Suwon. Samil was known as one of the top basketball schools outside of Seoul and he caught the attention of scouts, especially after his performances with the youth national teams. Yang Hee-jong
Yang Hee-jong (born 11 May 1984) is a South Korean professional basketball player. He plays for the Anyang KGC of the Korean Basketball League and the South Korean national team. Early life Yang is a native of Suwon and had been a star taekwondo athlete in elementary school but his PE teacher suggested that he try basketball as he was taller than his peers. As a student at Samil Commercial High School, Yang quickly drew the attention of college basketball recruiters as well as youth national team selectors after they won the school's first ever basketball tournament. College career Yang played college basketball for Yonsei University. His teammates at that time included best friend Kim Tae-sul and national teammate Ha Seung-jin, who had been his junior in high school. Lee Dae-sung
Lee Dae-sung (born 30 May 1990) is a South Korean professional basketball player. He plays for Daegu KOGAS Pegasus in the Korean Basketball League and the South Korean national team. Early life Lee is a graduate of Samil Commercial High School, one of the province's most notable high school basketball programs. One of his contemporaries was Kim Min-goo, a year his junior, and they led the team to win the 2008 National High School Basketball Championship. Park Chan-hee (born April 17, 1987) is a South Korean basketball player for Wonju DB Promy and the South Korean national team. Early life Park grew up in Yeosu and moved to Seoul after his father got a job in Incheon. He first became interested in basketball as an elementary school student after seeing a game broadcast on television. In 2004 he first drew attention after leading Kyungbock High School to win two high school tournaments. College career Despite receiving offers from Yonsei University and Korea University, Park committed to Kyung Hee University. Kim Joo-sung (basketball)
Kim Joo-sung ( ko, 김주성; born 9 November 1979) is a South Korean basketball coach and retired player. A forward-center, he spent his entire sixteen-year playing career with Wonju DB Promy. Since 2019 he has been a coach at Wonju DB Promy. Early life A native of Busan, Kim grew up in the district of Haeundae-gu. Kim only began focusing on basketball in high school, relatively late compared to many of his KBL peers. His younger sister Kim Hyang-ran is a former volleyball player. Oh Se-keun
Oh Se-keun (born 20 May 1987) is a South Korean professional basketball player who plays for Anyang KGC in the Korean Basketball League. Once a mainstay of the South Korean national team, he was a member of the gold medal-winning team at the 2014 Asian Games. Oh is the first South Korean player to record a quadruple-double in any domestic officially-sanctioned adult basketball competition, whether at college or senior level. Lee Jung-hyun (born March 3, 1987) is a South Korean professional basketball player for Jeonju KCC Egis in the Korean Basketball League and the South Korean national team. Early life Lee played baseball and football throughout elementary school. A promising football prospect, he had considered becoming a professional football player. KBL Best 5
The KBL Best 5 (Korean: 베스트 5) an annual honor bestowed on the best players in the Korean Basketball League following every season. The honor is analogous to the "All-NBA Team" in the NBA or "Team of the Year" in association football. Voting is conducted by a panel of KBL-registered reporters and journalists who exclusively cover the sport. Both domestic and foreign players are eligible for selection. "One-club man" Yang Dong-geun holds the all-time record for the most number of selections, with nine, and Seo Jang-hoon and Kim Joo-sung are jointly ranked second, with eight selections.
