The 2017–18 Dallas Stars season was the 51st season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 5, 1967, and 25th season since the franchise relocated from Minnesota prior to the start of the 1993–94 NHL season. The Stars failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second straight year. It was the tenth time that the Stars missed the playoffs since moving to Dallas in 1993, which was more than the franchise had missed back when the franchise was based in Minnesota, nine (missed playoffs in 1969, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1987, 1988, and 1993). Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. This is a list of seasons completed by the Dallas Stars team of the National Hockey League. This list documents the records and playoff results for all seasons the Stars have completed in the NHL since 1993. The franchise relocated in 1993 from Minnesota, where it was the Minnesota North Stars. The 2017–18 Arizona Coyotes season was the 39th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 22, 1979, the 22nd season since the franchise relocated from Winnipeg following the 1995–96 NHL season, and the 46th overall, including the World Hockey Association years. The 2017–18 Nashville Predators season was the 20th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 25, 1997. The team reached the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, and went from the worst team to qualify for the playoffs the season before to the NHL's top team, winning the Central Division and winning the Presidents' Trophy, both for the first time in team history. However, the Predators were eliminated in the Second Round of the playoffs, as they were upset by the Winnipeg Jets, losing in seven games. The 2017–18 Vegas Golden Knights season was the inaugural season for the Vegas Golden Knights. They played their home games at T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Kari Lehtonen (born November 16, 1983) is a Finland, Finnish former professional ice hockey goaltender who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Atlanta Thrashers and Dallas Stars. He was selected second overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Thrashers, becoming the highest-drafted European goaltender, as well as being tied with Patrik Laine, Aleksander Barkov Jr., Alexander Barkov and Kaapo Kakko for the highest-drafted Finnish player in NHL history. Playing career Early years Lehtonen was drafted second overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers after an outstanding 2001–02 season in the Finnish Liiga, SM-liiga. Mike McKenna (born April 11, 1983) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender. McKenna was selected in the 6th round (172nd overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators and played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils, Columbus Blue Jackets, Arizona Coyotes, Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators, Vancouver Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers.
