The 2017–18 season was Carlisle United's 113th season in their history and their fourth consecutive season in League Two. Along with League Two, the club participated in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. The season covered the period from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018. Carlisle United F
Carlisle ( , ; from xcb, Caer Luel) is a city that lies within the Northern English county of Cumbria, south of the Scottish border at the confluence of the rivers Eden, Caldew and Petteril. It is the administrative centre of the City of Carlisle district which, (along with Cumbria County Council) will be replaced by Cumberland Council in April 2023. The city became an established settlement during the Roman Empire to serve forts on Hadrian's Wall. During the Middle Ages, the city was an important military stronghold due to its proximity to the Kingdom of Scotland. Richard Thomas Bennett (born 23 March 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for club Southport, on loan from club Scunthorpe United. Having left the youth team at Oldham Athletic at the age of 15, he began his career in non-League football with Springhead, Curzon Ashton, Mossley, Northwich Victoria and Barrow. His 22 goals in 53 appearances for Barrow during the 2016–17 season earned him a move to Carlisle United in July 2017, meaning he first entered the Football League at the age of 26. Jamal Campbell-Ryce
Jamal Julian Campbell-Ryce (born 6 April 1983) is a former professional footballer who played as a winger. He is currently with Peterborough United as Manager of the U18s. Born in Lambeth, Greater London he began his career with Charlton Athletic in 2001 from where he has moved to a number of clubs including Rotherham United, Southend United, Barnsley, Bristol City and Notts County before joining Sheffield United in 2014. He is also a former Jamaican international, qualifying through his parentage. Samir Nabi (born 16 December 1996) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Sutton Coldfield Town on a dual-registration loan from Hednesford Town. Born in England, he represents Pakistan internationally. Michael David Jones (born 15 August 1987) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre midfielder for Chesterfield. Jones attended St Anne’s Primary school in Rock Ferry and later St John Plessington Catholic High School. As a child Jones was an avid Tranmere Rovers fan. Jason Brian Kennedy (born 11 September 1986) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Marske United. In his 12-year-long playing career, Kennedy spent most of his career with Rochdale with whom he signed in 2009, going on to appear in 177 official games. Gary Daniel Liddle (born 15 June 1986) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back or midfielder for Northern Premier League side South Shields. He has played in the English Football League for Hartlepool United, Notts County, Bradford City, Chesterfield, Carlisle United and Walsall. Luke James Joyce (born 9 July 1987) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Radcliffe. Joyce came through the youth team at Wigan Athletic to make his first-team debut in January 2006. He was allowed to sign for Carlisle United six months later, from where he was loaned out to Conference Premier clubs Barrow and Northwich Victoria during the 2008–09 season.
