2017–18 Buffalo Sabres Season
The 2017–18 Buffalo Sabres season was the 48th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on May 22, 1970. The Sabres missed the playoffs again, finishing last in the division for the second straight year and last overall in the league. Standings Off-season General manager Tim Murray and head coach Dan Bylsma were both fired at the end of the previous season. Two former Sabres players were hired in their places: Jason Botterill, at the time a front office executive with the Pittsburgh Penguins, was hired as general manager, while Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman Phil Housley, at the time defensive coordinator for the Nashville Predators, was named head coach. The Sabres once again held a summer development camp during the second week of July. Atlantic Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League has used the name Atlantic Division for two distinct groups of teams. The original Atlantic Division, the predecessor of which was the Patrick Division, was formed in 1993 as part of the Eastern Conference in a league realignment. As part of a 2013 realignment, the entirety of the former Atlantic Division was realigned into the Metropolitan Division. The Atlantic Division name was assigned to a new division comprising the entirety of the former Northeast Division plus the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning (coincidentally, both were members of the original Atlantic Division until 1998) from the now-dissolved Southeast Division, and the Detroit Red Wings, who moved from the Central Division of the Western Conference. The 2017–18 Pittsburgh Penguins season was the fifty-first season for the National Hockey League ice hockey team that was established on June 5, 1967. It entered the season as two-time defending Stanley Cup champions. The Penguins entered this season as the longest active playoffs streak in the NHL after the Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs for the first time in 25 years last season. Linus Ullmark (; born 31 July 1993) is a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL).
