2017–18 Benevento Calcio Season
The 2017–18 season was Benevento Calcio's first-ever season in Serie A, the Football in Italy, top-flight of Italian football. The club competed in both 2017–18 Serie A, Serie A and the 2017–18 Coppa Italia, Coppa Italia. Following fourteen consecutive defeats to begin the season (an Italian top-flight record), Benevento remained rooted firmly in 20th place during the entirety of the 2017–18 campaign. The club were also eliminated early on in the third round of the Coppa Italia, falling 4–0 to Serie B side A.C. Perugia Calcio, Perugia, with Juventus loanee and Italian youth player Alberto Cerri scoring a hat-trick. Malian footballer and former FC Girondins de Bordeaux, Bordeaux player Cheick Diabaté (footballer, born 1988), Cheick Diabaté, a winter signing, finished as the club's top scorer with eight goals, following an excellent end of season, though this would not be enough to save the club from returning immediately to the second division. Benevento Calcio
Benevento Calcio, commonly referred to as Benevento, is an Italian football club based in Benevento, Campania. The club was originally founded in 1929 and then re-founded in 2005. They currently compete in Serie B, having been relegated from Serie A in the 2020–21 season. History Early history The club was founded as Associazione Calcio Benevento in 1929, their original home was the ''Meomartini'' which was built by Ciccio Minocchia. After working their way up the country's lower divisions during their early years, Benevento reached Prima Divisione, Italy's third highest professional league at the time, in the 1934–35 season.
