2017–18 Alabama Crimson Tide Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team (variously "Alabama", "UA", "Bama" or "Alabama Crimson Tide, The Tide") represented the University of Alabama in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by third-year head coach Avery Johnson and played its home games at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as a member of the Southeastern Conference. They finished the season 20–16, 8–10 in SEC play to finish in a tie for ninth place. They defeated 2017–18 Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball team, Texas A&M and 2017–18 Auburn Tigers men's basketball team, Auburn in the 2018 SEC men's basketball tournament, SEC tournament before losing in the semifinals to 2017–18 Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team, Kentucky. Avery Johnson
Avery DeWitt Johnson (born March 25, 1965) is an American basketball television commentator and former player and coach who most recently served as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team. He is currently an NBA and college basketball analyst for CBS Sports. Johnson spent 16 years in the National Basketball Association as a player, and subsequently served as the head coach of two NBA teams: the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets. He led the Mavericks to their first NBA Finals appearance and to three consecutive 50+ win seasons. During his playing days, Johnson was known as the "Little General" for his small stature (by NBA standards), his leadership skills as a point guard, and his close friendship with former San Antonio Spurs teammate David Robinson.
