The 2017 Winston–Salem Open was a men's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 49th edition of the Winston-Salem Open (as successor to previous tournaments in New Haven and Long Island), and part of the ATP World Tour 250 Series of the 2017 ATP World Tour. It took place at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States, from August 20 through August 26, 2017. It was the last event on the 2017 US Open Series before the 2017 US Open. ATP World Tour 250 Series
The ATP 250 tournaments (previously known as the ''ATP World Tour 250'' tournaments, ''ATP International Series'', and ''ATP World Series'') are the lowest tier of annual men's tennis tournaments on the main ATP Tour, after the four Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam tournaments, ATP Finals, ATP Tour Masters 1000, ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, and ATP 500 tournaments. As of 2020 ATP Tour, 2020, the series includes 39 tournaments, with 250 ranking points awarded to each singles champion—which accounts for the name of the series. Steve Johnson (tennis)
Steve "Stevie" Johnson Jr. (born December 24, 1989) is an American professional tennis player. For one week in August 2016 he was the top-ranked American in men's singles. He has a career-high singles ranking of world No. 21 achieved on July 25, 2016 and a doubles ranking of world No. 39 achieved on May 23, 2016. Petros Chrysochos (Greek: Πέτρος Χρυσοχός; born April 8, 1996) is a professional Cypriot tennis player and a member of Cyprus Davis Cup team. He won his first professional ITF futures tournament in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt without dropping a set which saw him debuting at 860 in the world on the professional ATP world rankings. Chrysochos was a member of the 2018 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship team at Wake Forest University, playing #2 in both the singles and doubles lineups. Chung Hyeon (; ; born 19 May 1996) is a South Korean professional tennis player. He is the 2017 Next Gen Finals champion. As an unseeded player, he became the first Korean player to reach a Grand Slam semifinal at the 2018 Australian Open.
