2017 Weber State Wildcats Football Season
The 2017 Weber State Wildcats football team represented Weber State University in the 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Wildcats were led by fourth-year head coach Jay Hill and played their games at Stewart Stadium as members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 11–3, 7–1 in Big Sky play to finish in a tie for the Big Sky championship with Southern Utah. Due to their head-to-head loss to Southern Utah in the regular season, they did not receive the Big Sky's automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs, but did receive an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs, their second straight trip to the playoffs. In the first round, they defeated Western Illinois. In the second round, they avenged their regular season loss to Southern Utah. In the quarterfinals, they lost to eventual national runner-up, James Madison. Jay Hill (American Football)
Jay Leroy Hill (born March 16, 1975) is an American football coach. He is the defensive coordinator and associate head coach at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. Hill served as the head football coach at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah from 2014 to 2022, compiling a record of 68–39 in nine seasons. He left Weber State as the program's all-time winningest head coach. Hill was an assistant coach at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City under Urban Meyer and Kyle Whittingham from 2001 to 2013. Personal life Hill is married to the former Sara Kern. They have four children: Ashtyn, Alayna, Allie and Jacob Hill earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish in 2000 from the University of Utah and earned his master's degree in ESS/Sports Psychology from the University of Utah in 2005. The 2017 UC Davis football team represented the University of California, Davis as a member of the Big Sky Conference during the 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by first-year head coach Dan Hawkins, UC Davis compiled an overall record of 5–6 with a mark of 3–5 in conference play, placing eighth in the Big Sky. The 2017 Eastern Washington Eagles football team represented Eastern Washington University in the 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The team was coached by first-year head coach Aaron Best, who was promoted from Offensive Line coach. The 2017 Montana Grizzlies football team represented the University of Montana in the 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Grizzlies were led by third-year coach Bob Stitt and played their home games on campus at Washington–Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Montana as a charter member of the Big Sky Conference. Alexander Giannascoli (born February 3, 1993), better known by his stage names Alex G or, formerly, (Sandy) Alex G, is an American musician, producer, and singer-songwriter. The Southern Utah–Weber State football rivalry, known as the Beehive Bowl, is the annual football game between Southern Utah University and Weber State University. Between 1984 and 2006, the schools met 17 times. In 2011, Southern Utah joined the Big Sky Conference, making it a yearly rivalry. On January 14, 2021, the Western Athletic Conference announced that they are reinstating football, with Southern Utah among the teams moving to the WAC.
