2017 Volvo Car Open
The 2017 Charleston Open, Volvo Car Open was a women's tennis event on the 2017 WTA Tour. It took place between April 3 – 9, 2017 and was the 45th edition of the Charleston Open tournament and a WTA Premier tournaments#Premier, Premier level tournament. The event took place at the Family Circle Tennis Center, on Daniel Island, Charleston, South Carolina, Charleston, United States. It was the only event of the clay court season played on green clay. WTA Premier Tournaments
WTA Premier Tournaments was a category of tennis tournaments in the Women's Tennis Association tour, implemented from the reorganization of the schedule in 2009 until 2020. In 2020, Premier events included: * Four "Premier Mandatory" events in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, and Beijing with prize money of $4.5 million. * Five "Premier 5" events in Doha, Rome, Cincinnati, Toronto/Montreal, and Wuhan with prize money of $2 million. * Twelve "Premier" events with prize money of $600,000 to $1,000,000. The ranking points awarded to the winners of these tournaments are: * "Premier Mandatory" 1000 * "Premier 5" 900 and * "Premier" 470. This compares to 2,000 points for winning a Grand Slam Tournament ("major"), up to 1,500 points for winning the WTA Finals, and 280 for winning an International tournament. Samantha Jane Stosur ( ; born 30 March 1984) is an Australian professional tennis player. She is a former world No. 1 in doubles, a ranking which she first achieved on 6 February 2006 and held for 61 consecutive weeks. Also a former top ten singles player, Stosur reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 4 on 21 February 2011 and spent a total of 165 weeks ranked inside the top ten, between March 2010 and June 2013. Ana Bogdan (born 25 November 1992) is a Romanian professional tennis player. Having made her tour debut in 2007, she peaked at No. 46 in the WTA rankings in October 2022. Kayla Day (born September 28, 1999) is an American professional tennis player. She has a career-high ranking of No. 122 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). As a junior, she won one junior Grand Slam title, at the 2016 US Open. There, she also finished runner–up in the girls' doubles event, partnering with Caroline Dolehide. Mirjana Lučić-Baroni (; ; born 9 March 1982) is a Croatian former professional tennis player. She enjoyed a meteoric rise on the WTA Tour in the late 1990s, during which she set several "youngest-ever" records.
