2017 UCI Road World Championships – Men's Road Race
The Men's road race of the 2017 UCI Road World Championships was a cycling event that took place on 24 September 2017 in Bergen, Norway. It was the 84th edition of the championship, and Slovakia's Peter Sagan was the two times defending champion. After a late move from France's Julian Alaphilippe was brought back within the final kilometres, Sagan outsprinted his rivals to win a third consecutive world title, the first male rider to do so. As well as this, he became the fifth man – after Alfredo Binda, Rik Van Steenbergen, Eddy Merckx and Óscar Freire – to win three elite road world championship titles. European champion Alexander Kristoff from Norway took the silver medal, while the bronze medal went to Australian Michael Matthews. Rainbow Jersey
The rainbow jersey is the distinctive jersey worn by the reigning world champion in a cycling discipline, since 1927. The jersey is predominantly white with five horizontal bands in the UCI colours around the chest. From the bottom up the colours are: green, yellow, black, red and blue; the same colours that appear in the rings on the Olympic flag. The tradition is applied to all disciplines, including road racing, track racing, cyclo-cross, BMX, Trials and the disciplines within mountain biking. A world champion must wear the jersey when competing in the same discipline, category and speciality for which the title was won. For example, the world road race champion would wear the garment while competing in stage races (except for time trial stages) and one-day races, but would not be entitled to wear it during time trials. Benjamin Ian Swift (born 5 November 1987) is a British professional Track cycling, track and road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Swift won the UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Men's scratch, scratch race at the 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and the men's elite road race at the 2019 and 2021 British National Road Race Championships. His cousin, Connor Swift, is also an English professional road racing cyclist, and the 2018 British champion. Matteo Trentin (born 2 August 1989) is an Italian professional road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Professional career In 2014, Trentin took a prestigious victory on Stage 7 of the Tour de France, where he won the sprint by a few centimeters over Peter Sagan. Trentin had also won a stage of the same race on his maiden Tour start in 2013, winning in a sprint in Lyon against his breakaway counterparts. In October 2015, Trentin won Paris–Tours in record time for a race over 200 km, thus becoming the new ''Ruban Jaune''. Damien Shaw (born 10 July 1984) is an Irish former professional cyclist, who rode professionally for in 2016 and 2017, and in 2018. UCI World Ranking
The UCI men's road racing world rankings are a point system which is used to rank men's road cycling riders. Points are accrued over a rolling 52 weeks in three categories (Individual, Nations and Teams). Also Year-End rankings exist, based on 12-month period in both Individual and Nations categories. All points available are determined on the importance level and for its prestige at each race. The ''Union Cycliste Internationale'' (UCI; ; en, International Cycling Union) is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. 2013 UCI Road World Championships – Men's Road Race
The Men's road race of the 2013 UCI Road World Championships was a cycling event that took take place on 29 September 2013 in the region of Tuscany, Italy. The course of the race was from the town of Lucca to the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence. As in previous years, the race was the final event of the Road World Championships. The race was won by Rui Costa who beat Joaquim Rodríguez in a sprint finish, with a total time of 7h 25min 44s, the second highest time in UCI Road World Championships history. Route The race started in Lucca and ended in the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence. The early part of the route was identified as particularly difficult, with climbs up the Montecatini Alto at and the San Baronto at . Rong, Norway
Rong is a village in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village takes up most of the island of Rongøyna. The main road in the village is Norwegian county road 561 which runs north-south and connects the island to Toftøyna island to the south via the Rongesundet Bridge (over the Rongesundet strait) and to the island of Blomøyna to the north.
