2017 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series
The 2017 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is the ninth Racecar Euro Series season, and the fifth under the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series branding. Anthony Kumpen enters the season as the defending champion in the Elite 1 class. Stienes Longin entered the season as the defending Elite 2 champion, but he will not defend his title as he moved up to the Elite 1 class. In the Elite 1 class, Alon Day won his first Elite 1 title, winning the championship by 53 points over Anthony Kumpen. In the Elite 2 class, Thomas Ferrando won his first Elite 2 title, finishing ahead of PK Carsport's Guillaume Dumarey by 91 points. Knauf Racing, represented by the No. 37 team, won their first (and only) team's championship title. The Bologna Motor Show (known as the "''Salone internazionale dell'auto e della moto di Bologna''" in Italian) was an auto show which was scheduled to be held annually in December, in Bologna, Italy. The editions of 2009 and 2012 were the shortest events in its history, whereas the editions of 2013 and 2015 were not held, due to unfavourable economic conditions initially, and a lack of planning by new organizers and diminished interest by exhibitors, respectively. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (formerly known as Racecar Euro Series and Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series) is an official NASCAR stock-car racing series based in Europe. Marco Melandri (born 7 August 1982) is an Italian retired motorcycle road racer who is a five-time premier class race winner. He is the 2002 250 cc World Champion and runner-up in 125 cc, MotoGP and Superbike World Championship. He competed in the MotoGP class from 2003 to 2010 and then a brief return with Aprilia in 2015.
