2017 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2017 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament is the postseason conference tournament for the Sun Belt Conference. The tournament will be held at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana from March 8 to March 12, 2017. The tournament winner will receive the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Seeds All 12 conference teams will compete in the conference tournament. Teams were seeded by record within the conference, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. The top four teams received a bye to the quarterfinals. The Senator Nat G. Kiefer University of New Orleans Lakefront Arena (commonly Lakefront Arena or UNO Lakefront Arena) is an 8,933-seat multi-purpose arena located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The arena is home to the University of New Orleans New Orleans Privateers, Privateers New Orleans Privateers men's basketball, men's and New Orleans Privateers#Intercollegiate sports, women's basketball teams. It was built in 1983 and renamed in 1986 in honor of Nat G. Kiefer, the late state senator who aided University of New Orleans, UNO's efforts to obtain state funding for the building. Kiefer's state senate district included the UNO campus. It is part of the university's East Campus; the arena is southwest of Maestri Field, home to the UNO baseball team. 2016–17 Arkansas State Red Wolves Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Arkansas State Red Wolves men's basketball team represented Arkansas State University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Red Wolves, led by first-year head coach Grant McCasland, played their home games at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas as members of the Sun Belt Conference. The Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament has been played every year since the formation of the Sun Belt Conference for the 1976–77 academic year. The winner of the tournament is guaranteed an automatic berth into the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. History Format The size and format of the Sun Belt tournament has varied widely since its establishment in 1976. The size of the conference has ranged between a minimum of six teams and as many as thirteen. Nonetheless, the tournament has consistently utilized a simple single-elimination style tournament. Through the 2018 edition of the tournament, with a few exceptions, all conference members were typically invited to each tournament.
