The 2017 Stony Brook Seawolves football team represented Stony Brook University in the 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Seawolves competed as fifth-year members of the Colonial Athletic Association with Chuck Priore as the head coach for his twelfth season. They played their home games at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, New York. They finished the season 10–3, 7–1 in CAA play to finish in second place. Chuck Priore
Chuck Priore (born February 17, 1960) is an American football coach and former player. He is the current head football coach at Stony Brook University, a position he has held since the 2006 season. Priore served the head football coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut from 2000 to 2005. He was also the head men's lacrosse coach at the University at Albany in 1986 and at Union College in Schenectady, New York from 1988 to 1991. Priore's coaching style is known for his run-heavy offense and aggressive defense. Playing career Priore played football at the University at Albany before graduating in 1982. He was the starting fullback for three seasons and was named team captain before his senior year. In 1982, he won the Spud Kruzan Award, given to Albany's most outstanding athlete. Orono, Maine
Orono () is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. Located on the Penobscot and Stillwater rivers, it was first settled by American colonists in 1774. They named it in honor of Chief Joseph Orono, a sachem of the indigenous Penobscot nation who long occupied this territory. In the nineteenth century, the town became a center of the lumber industry. Sawmills on the rivers were powered by the water, and logs were floated downriver on the Penobscot for shipping and export from coastal ports. Since 1865 it has been the location of the University of Maine, established as a land-grant institution and the state's flagship educational institution. Alfond Stadium (University Of Maine)
Morse Field at Harold Alfond Sports Stadium is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Orono, Maine. The stadium opened as Alumni Field in 1947 and underwent extensive renovations from 1996 to 1998. It is home to the University of Maine Black Bears football team. The wood and steel grandstands, built in the 1940s, were condemned and demolished in 1996, replaced with the current east grandstand, along with a temporary structure on the west side, adjacent to Alfond Arena. The current west grandstand, lights, press and luxury levels, as well as concessions and restroom amenities were completed prior to the 1998 season. The stadium was rededicated to Harold Alfond, a longtime Maine booster, at Maine's first home night game on September 12, 1998, a 52–28 win over New Hampshire in the Battle for the Brice-Cowell Musket. Albany–Stony Brook Football Rivalry
The Albany–Stony Brook football rivalry, also known as the Battle for the Golden Apple and the Empire Clash is an American college football rivalry between the Albany Great Danes and the Stony Brook Seawolves. Both teams represent university centers of the State University of New York, and since 2013 have competed together as football-only members of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The two teams have met 23 times on the football field, with Albany currently holding a 13–10 edge in the all-time series. Albany leads the series 10–9 since 1999, when both programs moved up to Division I. Since 2013, when both programs joined the CAA together, they have been meeting yearly as part of their conference schedule. The 2017 Richmond Spiders football team represented the University of Richmond in the 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by first-year head coach Russ Huesman and played their home games at E. Claiborne Robins Stadium. The Spiders were a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
