2017 Perth Darts Masters
The 2017 Perth Darts Masters was the fourth staging of the tournament by the Professional Darts Corporation, as the sixth entry in the 2017 World Series of Darts. The tournament featured 16 players (eight PDC players facing eight regional qualifiers) and was held at the HBF Stadium in Perth, Western Australia between 25–27 August 2017. Michael van Gerwen was the defending champion after winning 2016 edition, but did not compete as he wished not to be included in the draw after his wife was due to give birth. Gary Anderson won the title after defeating Raymond van Barneveld 11–7 in the final. Anderson won in his fifth World Series Event final appearance his fifth title, making it a 100% winning ratio in Event Finals. Prize money The total prize fund was £60,000. HBF Stadium
Perth Superdrome, known as HBF Stadium under a commercial naming rights arrangement, is a sports complex in Perth, Western Australia. It is home to the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS). The venue is located in the suburb of Mount Claremont, approximately west of Perth's central business district. The complex was opened in 1986. It received its current name through a naming-rights sponsorship deal with the HBF Health Fund in 2014. Although the previous sponsorship with Challenge Bank expired in 2002, the Challenge Stadium name remained in use until 2014. Facilities include an Olympic-standard aquatic centre with five pools, a diving tower, gymnasium, two arenas, and several basketball courts, as well as a café, childcare centre, sports store, office accommodation and a museum. Simon Whitlock
Simon Whitlock (born 3 March 1969) is an Australian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments, having also played in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) between 2004 and 2009. He uses the nickname The Wizard for his matches. His walk-on music is "Down Under" by Men at Work. His greatest achievements to date are winning the 2012 European Championship and 2022 World Cup of Darts for Australia with Damon Heta. Whitlock has also finished runner-up at the 2008 BDO World Darts Championship and the 2010 PDC World Darts Championship. He claimed that the prize money gained from the latter tournament which included money for the highest checkout (joint with Phil Taylor) would allow him to move over to the UK from Australia and compete on the PDC Pro Tour. World Series Of Darts
The World Series of Darts is a series of darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. Beginning in 2013, the World Series has comprised between two and seven tournaments across the world, where a mixture of the top-ranked PDC players take on local qualifiers in a knockout format. Since 2015, there has been a finals tournament held annually in November at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, although in 2018, it moved to the Multiversum Schwechat in Vienna, Austria, and moved again to the AFAS Live in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2019, then to the Salzburgarena, Salzburg in 2020. Darren Stanley Hayes (born 8 May 1972) is an Australian singer, songwriter, music producer and composer. He was the frontman and singer of the pop duo Savage Garden until their disbandment. Their 1997 album '' Savage Garden'' peaked at number 1 in Australia, number 2 in the United Kingdom and number 3 in the United States. Adam Rowe (; born 11 January 1992) is an English stand-up comedian and podcaster from Liverpool. Early life Rowe was brought up in Dovecot and West Derby areas of Liverpool, England. Rowe started a maths degree at the University of Liverpool but did not complete it in order to concentrate on performing comedy. Rob Szabo
Robert "Rob" Szabo (born 29 October 1965 from Wellington) is a former professional darts player from New Zealand. Career Szabo claimed the 2010 New Zealand National Championship by beating Koha Kokiri 4–0 in the final. He qualified for the 2014 PDC World Darts Championship after winning the New Zealand National Championship in July 2013. After beating England's Ian Moss 4–3 in the preliminary round he led Phil Taylor 1–0 in sets and 1–0 in legs before losing 3–1 in sets, in the first round. His performance received high praise from numerous darts pundits including Wayne Mardle, and from Taylor himself. In June, Szabo made his debut in the World Cup of Darts as he represented New Zealand with Craig Caldwell and they lost 5–3 to Spain in the first round. Justin Thompson (born 8 January 1969) is an Australian professional darts player who plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Noel James Kyle Anderson (14 September 1987 – 24 August 2021) was an Australian professional darts player who played within the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) from 2012 to 2021. He won the 2017 Auckland Darts Masters tournament. Career He started playing darts at the age of six and had competed in tournaments since he was nine. He first became interested in the game watching his father play. Anderson was an Aboriginal man of Noongar origin.
