2017 Ontario Tankard
The 2017 Recharge With Milk Men's Tankard, better known as the Ontario Tankard was the 2017 edition of the Ontario men's provincial curling championship to determine who will represent the province of Ontario at the 2017 Tim Hortons Brier, the national curling championship of Canada. In 2017, the Tankard was contesteded in conjunction with the 2017 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, at the Cobourg Community Centre in Cobourg, Ontario, January 29-February 5, 2017. Ten teams played a round robin competition, followed by a page playoff to determine the tournament champion. A 54 year old Glenn Howard led his team to win his 17th career provincial championship, qualifying himself for a record 17th Brier. Cobourg, Ontario
Cobourg ( ) is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Southern Ontario east of Toronto and east of Oshawa. It is the largest town in and seat of Northumberland County. Cataraqui Golf and Country Club is a private golf and curling club located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1917. History Early golf in Kingston, the Kingston Golf Club Cataraqui G&CC was established in 1917. Its founding arose from development pressures in downtown Kingston. The new club was built on land that was then on the western edge of settlement for the city and district, following the World War I-era construction of the LaSalle Causeway and provincial highway, across the Cataraqui River as it feeds into Lake Ontario, in downtown Kingston. Scott Chadwick (curler)
Scott Chadwick (born January 16, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Napanee, Ontario. He currently plays lead on Team Tanner Horgan. In 2021, he competed at the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Career While at Queen's University at Kingston, Chadwick won the 2010 CIS/CCA Curling Championships and placed fifth the following year at the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey. Chadwick would later team up with Greg Balsdon and capture the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2. In 2019, along with Scott McDonald, Jonathan Beuk and Wesley Forget, he represented Ontario at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier where they finished with a 6–5 record. In 2021, while playing lead for Tanner Horgan, he finished second at the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Pre-Trials, earning a spot in the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Jonathan Beuk
Jonathan Beuk (born April 18, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Kingston, Ontario. Career While attending Queen's University, Beuk led his team of Andrew Inouye, Chadd Vandermade and Scott Chadwick to a gold medal at the 2010 CIS/CCA Curling Championships, Canada's University curling championship. The team represented Canada at the 2011 Winter Universiade, where they missed out on the playoffs, finishing with a 6–3 record. After University, Beuk joined the Jake Higgs rink, throwing second stones for the team. It was as a member of this team that Beuk played in his first provincial men's championship, the 2012 Dominion Tankard. There, the team finished with a 3–7 record. Gregory Balsdon (born October 9, 1977) is a Canadian curler from North York, Ontario. He currently skips a team on the World Curling Tour. Curling career Balsdon was born in Toronto, Ontario. In 1995, Balsdon won the Ontario Schoolboy championship for his Don Mills Collegiate Institute team. In 1996, he won the provincial junior mixed title. Balsdon skips one of the top teams in Ontario. As of 2019, Balsdon has played in 13 provincial championships. He first played at the provincials in 1999, playing for John Base (4th place). He left the Base rink in 2000 to form his own team. Joe Frans
Joseph Mark Frans (born July 1, 1975 in Grimsby, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Guelph, Ontario. Frans is most notable for being a two-time provincial champion and for being suspended from competitive curling for cocaine usage. Career Frans obtained fame as a curler in 1991, when he won the provincial school boys championship and the provincial junior mixed championship while curling in Smiths Falls, Ontario. In 1993, Frans won the provincial junior championship while playing in St. Catharines, Ontario. At the 1993 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team would finish with a 6-5 record. In 1994, Frans would win a second straight provincial championship, this time with Bradford, Ontario.
