2017 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2017 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship of Nova Scotia, was held from January 24 to 29 at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax. The winning Mary Mattatall team represented Nova Scotia at the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in St. Catharines, Ontario. The winning Mattatall rink were all senior-aged, with all members of the team being over 50 years old. Mattatall won her sixth provincial title of her career, and her first since 2005 when she played third for Kay Zinck. Third Andrea Saulnier and second Jill Alcoe-Holland had both won provincial seniors titles in 2010 and lead Marg Cutcliffe won the provincial masters championship in 2016 for curlers over 60. Mary-Anne Arsenault
Mary-Anne Arsenault (born August 19, 1968 in Scarborough, Ontario, also known as Mary-Anne Waye when she was married) is a Canadian curler from Lake Country, British Columbia. She is a five-time Canadian Champion, and two-time World Curling Champion. Arsenault has skipped her own team since 2007. Career 1999–2006 Arsenault joined up with Colleen Jones prior to the 1999 season. She had previously played with Jones, as her lead at the 1993 Scott Tournament of Hearts. Together with Jones, Nancy Delahunt and Kim Kelly, the team would achieve great success, winning 5 Canadian Championships, and 2 World Championships. Sarah Murphy (born July 28, 1986 as Sarah Rhyno) is a Canadian curler from Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is a two-time Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion. Career Murphy made her first national appearance at the 2006 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, skipping the Nova Scotia team. After a 7–4 round robin record, her team defeated Northern Ontario in the tiebreaker before losing to Manitoba to claim the bronze medal. Team Murphy (Rhyno at the time) qualified for their first Grand Slam of Curling event at the 2007 Sobeys Slam, going 0–3 in the triple knockout event. In 2010, her team qualified for the playoffs at the 2010 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts where they lost in the semifinal to eventual champion Nancy McConnery. Blisse Joyce
Blisse Joyce (born March 6, 1983 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia as Blisse Comstock) is a Canadian curler from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. She is a former Canadian Junior curling champion. She currently plays for Team Jill Brothers. Career In 2003, Joyce played second for Robyn Mattie's Boylston, Nova Scotia junior rink. They won their provincial junior championship, giving them the right to represent Nova Scotia at the 2003 Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Ottawa (where Mattie now lives). The team finished in first place (10-2) after the round robin, but lost to Saskatchewan's Stefanie Miller in the final. In 2004, Joyce joined the Jill Mouzar (now Brothers) team. Erin Carmody
Erin Carmody (born August 4, 1988) is a Canadian curler, originally from Prince Edward Island but residing in Halifax, Nova Scotia as of 2019. As of 2022, she plays third on Team Sarah Murphy. A native of the city of Summerside, Carmody was a biology student at the University of Prince Edward Island when she broke onto the curling scene by winning three consecutive provincial junior championships, twice with an undefeated record. She entered the national scene in 2010 after forming a rink with longtime teammate Geri-Lynn Ramsay and veteran curlers Kathy O'Rourke and Trisha Affleck that captured the 2010 provincial championships at the senior level. Theresa Breen (born December 4, 1965) is a Canadian curler from Bedford, Nova Scotia. She currently skips her own team out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Curling career Breen was the long-time third for the Anne Merklinger rink in the 1990s. As a member of that team, she would win four provincial championships, and would play in four Scott Tournament of Hearts, representing Ontario. Her first Hearts appearance was in 1993, where the team won a bronze medal, after losing to Manitoba's Maureen Bonar in the semi-final. The team returned to the Hearts the following year, but missed the playoffs after winning just 4 round robin games. The team returned to the Hearts in 1998, making it all the way to the final before losing to Alberta's Cathy Borst to settle for silver.
