The 2017 North Yorkshire County Council election was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 United Kingdom local elections, 2017 local elections in the United Kingdom. All 72 councillors were elected from 68 Wards and electoral divisions of the United Kingdom, electoral divisions which each returned either one or two county councillors by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. 2013 North Yorkshire County Council Election
An election to North Yorkshire County Council took place on 2 May 2013 as part of the 2013 United Kingdom local elections. 72 councillors were elected from 68 electoral divisions, which returned either one or two county councillors each by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. The four divisions which elected two members were Harrogate Bilton & Nidd Gorge, Harrogate Central, Knaresborough, and Selby Barlby. Of those seats UKIP won its first ever seats on the council in Bilton and Nidd Gorge. The electoral divisions were the same as those used at the previous election in 2009. The election saw the Conservative Party maintain overall control of the council. All locally registered electors (British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens) who were aged 18 or over on Thursday 2 May 2013 were entitled to vote in the local elections. Selby is a market town and civil parish in the Selby District of North Yorkshire, England, south of York on the River Ouse, with a population at the 2011 census of 14,731. The town was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. Selby once had a large shipbuilding industry, and was an important port on the Selby Canal which brought trade from Leeds. Selby District is a local government district of North Yorkshire, England. The local authority, Selby District Council, is based in the town of Selby. The Local Authority had a population of 83,449 at the 2011 Census. The Borough of Scarborough () is a non-metropolitan district and borough of North Yorkshire, England. In addition to the town of Scarborough, it covers a large stretch of the coast of Yorkshire, including Whitby and Filey. It borders Redcar and Cleveland to the north, the Ryedale and Hambleton districts to the west and the East Riding of Yorkshire to the south. The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972. It was a merger of the urban district of Filey and part of the Bridlington Rural District, from the historic East Riding of Yorkshire, along with the municipal borough of Scarborough, Scalby and Whitby urban districts, and Scarborough Rural District and Whitby Rural District, from the historic North Riding.
