2017 New York Mets Season
The 2017 New York Mets season was the franchise's 56th season and the team's ninth season at Citi Field. The Mets opened the season on April 3 against the Atlanta Braves and finished the season on October 1 against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Just two years removed from a World Series appearance, the Mets had high expectations. However, the season was a major disappointment with injuries to key players, poor performances from players such as Yoenis Cespedes, Matt Harvey, and Robert Gsellman, and by controversy within the organization and around players. The Mets thus finished in the 4th place in their division, missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014, and equaled their worst record since 2009. National League East
The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. The division was created when the National League (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The National League's geographical alignment was rather peculiar as its partitioning was really more north and south instead of east and west. Two teams in the Eastern Time Zone, the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, were in the same division as teams on the Pacific coast. This was due to the demands of the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, who refused to support expansion unless they were promised they would be kept together in the newly created East division. WFME-FM
WFME-FM (92.7 FM, ''Family Radio'') is a radio station licensed to Garden City, New York, and serving the western Long Island and New York City area. It is owned by Family Stations, Inc and broadcasts a religious music & reformed Christian teaching, Southern gospel music, and hymns format. The station's transmitter is located at the North Shore Towers in Glen Oaks, Queens. History In 1987, the station went on the air as WDRE-FM, and in 1996 changed to WLIR-FM. The 2005 New York Mets season was the 44th regular season for the Mets. They went 83-79 and finished 3rd in the NL East. They were managed by Willie Randolph. They played home games at Shea Stadium. The 2005 season is also noteworthy for being Mike Piazza's last season as a Met. In the last game of the season, he was given a long standing ovation from the fans at Shea Stadium. Neil Walker (baseball)
Neil Martin Andrew Walker (born September 10, 1985) is an American former professional baseball second baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2009–2015), New York Mets (2016–17), Milwaukee Brewers (2017), New York Yankees (2018), Miami Marlins (2019), and Philadelphia Phillies (2020). Walker was drafted by his hometown Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round of the 2004 MLB draft, and made his MLB debut with them in 2009. He won a Silver Slugger Award in 2014. Robert John Gsellman ( ; born July 18, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). He has played in Major League Baseball for the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs. Early life and amateur career Gsellman is the son of Bob Gsellman, a former minor league catcher drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round of the 1984 MLB Draft from Culver City High School in California. Matthew Edward Harvey (born March 27, 1989), nicknamed The Dark Knight, is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB).
