2017 Manitoba New Democratic Party Leadership Election
The New Democratic Party of Manitoba leadership election of 2017 was called as a result of the resignation of Manitoba NDP leader Greg Selinger following his government's defeat in the April 19, 2016, Manitoba general election. Rules The rules and format of the leadership election were decided by the party in March 2017 where no major changes to the status quo were approved. The party decided in favour of holding a traditional delegated leadership convention rather than a One Member One Vote election. RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg
The RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg (formerly the Winnipeg Convention Centre) is a major meeting and convention centre located in Downtown Winnipeg, downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Gimli, Manitoba
Gimli is an unincorporated community in the Rural Municipality of Gimli on the west side of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. The community's first European settlers were Icelanders who were part of the New Iceland settlement in Manitoba. The community maintains a strong connection to Iceland and Icelandic culture today, including the annual Icelandic Festival. It was incorporated as a village on March 6, 1908, and held List of towns in Manitoba, town status between December 31, 1946, and January 1, 2003, when it amalgamated with the RM of Gimli. Peter James Maloway (born November 10, 1952) is a Canadian politician, who has served as a member of both the House of Commons of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. He originally served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1986 to 2008, representing Elmwood for the New Democratic Party of Manitoba. He was then elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the Winnipeg division of Elmwood—Transcona in the 2008 federal election as a member of the New Democratic Party, but was defeated by Conservative candidate Lawrence Toet in the 2011 federal election. Logan is a former provincial electoral division in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1956, and existed until 1989. It was named after its main thoroughfare, Winnipeg Route 47, locally called Logan Avenue. The riding was located in the north-central region of Winnipeg, and included some of the city's poorest communities. Wellington was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was first created by redistribution in 1957, and formally came into being in the provincial election of 1958. The riding was eliminated in 1979, but was re-established in 1989. It was eliminated again for the 2011 election. It is located in the northwestern section of the city of Winnipeg, and is named after Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. Wellington was bordered on the east by Point Douglas, to the south by Minto and St. James, to the north by Inkster and Burrows, and to the west by the rural riding of Lakeside. The riding's population in 1996 was 20,283. In 1999, the average family income was $32,907, with 43% of the riding's residents listed as low-income (the third highest in the province). Niki Christina Ashton (born September 9, 1982) is a Canadian politician. She is the New Democratic Member of Parliament for the federal electoral district of Churchill—Keewatinook Aski in Manitoba, Canada. She was first elected in the 2008 federal election. 2015 New Democratic Party Of Manitoba Leadership Election
The New Democratic Party of Manitoba leadership election of 2015 was called at the request of Premier Greg Selinger following the resignation of five members of his cabinet in protest of his leadership of the New Democratic Party of Manitoba. Selinger ran in the election, facing two challengers, but prevailed on the second ballot. Rules Candidates must pay an entry fee of $2,000 and submit a nomination form signed by at least 50 members of the party. The election is being conducted as a traditional delegated leadership convention with delegates being selected by each electoral district and affiliated trade union who will then attend the convention and vote in ballots until one candidate wins 50% + 1 of the vote. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba leadership election of 2009 was prompted by party leader Gary Doer's announced pending resignation. Doer announced on August 27, 2009, that he intended to resign as leader of the New Democratic Party of Manitoba and Premier of Manitoba and the next day he announced that he was to become the next Canadian Ambassador to the United States. A leadership convention was held on October 16–17 to choose the new leader. Thompson is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1968 from parts of Churchill and Rupertsland, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1969. Thompson is located in the north of the province. It is bordered by Keewatinook to the east, and Flin Flon to the west. The city of Thompson was incorporated shortly before the riding's creation, and is its only major urban centre.
