The 2017 Kansas City Royals season was the 49th season for the franchise, and their 45th at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals opened the season at the Minnesota Twins on April 3, 2017 and finished the season at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks on October 1. They failed to make the playoffs for the second consecutive season. American League Central
The American League Central is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed in the realignment of 1994 by moving three teams from the American League West and two teams from the American League East. Its teams are all located in the Midwestern United States. Jorge Carlos Soler Castillo (born February 25, 1992) is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder for the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). Soler has previously played in MLB for the Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, and Atlanta Braves. Soler played for the Cuban national baseball team in international competition. Brooks Casey Pounders (born September 26, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He attended Temecula Valley High School in Temecula, California, and chose not to attend college after he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2009. After playing in the minor leagues for the Pirates, he was traded to the Kansas City Royals after the 2011 season. While in the Royals' minor league system, Pounders threw a no-hitter for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in 2013. Jakob Benjamin Lee Junis (born September 16, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 29th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, and made his MLB debut with them in 2017. Amateur career Junis attended Rock Falls High School in Rock Falls, Illinois, and graduated in 2011. There, he earned all-state honors in both baseball and basketball. Arnoldi Anthony Cruz (August 18, 1986) is an American former professional baseball catcher. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 26th round of the 2007 MLB Draft and he made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with them four years later. Luke Anthony Hochevar (; born September 15, 1983) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played college baseball at the University of Tennessee, and played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals from 2007 through 2016.
