2017 Iowa State Cyclones Football Team
The 2017 Iowa State Cyclones football team represented Iowa State University in the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season. Competing as a member of the Big 12 Conference (Big 12), the team played its home games at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. They were led by second-year head coach Matt Campbell. They finished the season 8–5, 5–4 in Big 12 play to finish in a four-way tie for fourth place. They were invited to the Liberty Bowl where they defeated Memphis. Matt Campbell (American Football Coach)
Matthew Allen Campbell (born November 29, 1979) is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach at Iowa State University, a position he has held since the 2016 season. Campbell was head football coach at the University of Toledo from 2011 to 2015. Prior to that, Campbell had been an assistant at Toledo, Bowling Green, and Mount Union. Campbell grew up in Ohio and briefly attended the University of Pittsburgh before transferring to Mount Union, where he played defensive line. Playing career Campbell was born in Massillon, Ohio. His father Rick coached football at Jackson High School. Matt played football at rival Perry, which won three conference championships while he was on the team. Kamari Cotton-Moya (born December 11, 1994) is a former American football defensive back. His accolades during his college career include 2017 First-team All-Big 12, 2016 Second-team All-Big 12, and Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2014. High school career At Ridgeview High School Cotton-Moya was a two-way star on the football field, he started both as quarterback and defensive back for the Wolfpack. His junior season Cotton-Moya rushed for 1,580 yards and 13 touchdowns as well as throwing for 464 yards and six touchdowns. Waterloo West High School
Waterloo West High School is one of three public high schools under the auspices of the Waterloo Community School District in Waterloo, Iowa. The school is located at the intersection of E. Ridgeway Ave. and Baltimore Ave. Mascot The school mascot is Westy the Wahawk. The name "Wahawk" is a portmanteau of the city name ( Waterloo) and the county name ( Black Hawk). Much controversy has surrounded the mascot, which was once an Indian chief thought to be politically incorrect. Landen Akers (born July 7, 1997) is an American football wide receiver for the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League (UFL). He played college football at Iowa State.
